Float punch
« on: August 11, 2011, 06:54:55 AM »
The guys that went to the Transkei that never wanted the piece of foam that was left behind are going to be sorry.

I made a punch to make some bait floats when fishing for BB.

Took a piece of roundbar and put it thru the laith. Machined a whole thru the centre and then machined the outside to an angle to make a sharp edge. Welded it to a bigger ring so that I had some sort of handle to hold and now have used it to punch out floats.

You can change the size of your floats just by cutting a thicker piece of foam.

You can buy a tool like that - not expensive. It's called a belt punch or a hole punch.

We just use a pipe. Take a centre and run it into it. Takes 30 seconds.

Like I said, you can also use a pipe. Not everyone has a lathe, so there is an option for everyone.

I've cut the same from 15mm thick sondor foam and then punched a small hole in the centre to attach to the back of lures to hold hook sets.

It is nice to have a lathe available though - great work!

Frittzie, I read that part...

1 - what is a BB? A Ball Bearing? And 2 - Do you glue them on the @55 of a live bait?  :dunno:

I was wondering more whether you wrap baits around them? Like a blob bait.
