Bronze Bream Trace
« on: August 09, 2011, 04:14:12 PM »
Thaught I should share with you on how I make my Bronze Bream traces. Remember this is how I make them, it might not work for you but it sure does work for me.

I generally use a 1/0 Gamakutsu or even the Mustad Big Gun Ultra point hooks in a size 6. Line I try and stick to something on the lighter side because they can be fussy. I use a 20bl floro. For this demo I have gone for some green line just to make it easier to see.

Floats one has a huge selection to choos from. Cork, foam pellits and the small orange bead like foam. The choice is really yours.

I am using the Mustad hook, orange float and 20bl Trilene.

Start by threading one end of the line thru the float and then thru the hook. Now go back thru the float.

I make my traces with a double line at thr hooks end because of the lighter line and the teeth that they have.

Now pull your tag end a bit long and keep in your right hand with the other end in your left hand start twisting the two ends by rolling the right hand foeward an the left hand backwards. Once the twist have reached the top, pull the the ends apart without letting go of your lines and repeat the twisting one more time.

Once you have done the twists neatly and tight, make a knot in the twisted end above your float. I use a double over hand knot. With all the twists in the line and it beeing double the knot is strong anough.

Trim the tag end off short.

Get a tooth pick and trimm of both sharp ends and then cut in half.

Bind one of the pieces of the toothpick to the back of the hook. Letting it exstend past the eye of the hook. This will serve as a base to build your bait onto as well as keep your bait nice and staight.

I generally use the size 6 hook but when I notice that the fish are bigger then I will use the 1/0.

Just remember that this is not the only way of doing it. Their are many other ways. But this is how I do it. Thats why I am eating fresh fish tonight.

Hi Fritz,
Nice trace, I am definitely gonna give it a go.
Have you found the coulour of the float to play a role?
Cred to you.

Not really MM. I use the cork and orange ball the most. All I can say is that if you are going to use the cork, is to keep the fatter side to the bait side and the sharper end towards you.

The trace has worked for Bronze Bream, Blacktail, Stumpy, Stone Bream and Brusher. When I am targeting BB then I will allways have the float on, other wise I use some foam on the tooth pick. But the list above has been taken with a Float on.

nice Fritz thanks for sharing... What are your top baits for BB?

Lango
Crayfish
Pink Prawn

I prever using them in that order. When the Lango is a bit small then add Prawn. Dont be scared to mix your baits. If they are biting very slow then you add some doepa.
