South Coast Estuary and River fishing

Hi all, i live in Uvongo, i have just accquired a small duc with a 5hp motor and a Jarvis sneeker motor

can any one help with location and types of bait that i will have to use, ie; lures , sards or prawn etc. All help will be welcomed, thank you

The south coast has some nice little rivers and a short drive over a weekend sees you in the kei for some really top class estuaries.

Some good rivers include the izotcha river, the 2 rivers in southbroom the names of which escape me, the mpenjati and umtamvuna rivers. You can also pop into gremlins and chat to Brendan he will sort you out with anymore info you need.

Just bear in mind that winter is not great for the rivers but once it warms up you can pick up some nice little kingies, garrick kob etc

Hi Oliver


You have great estuary fishing right on your doorstep!


Best places by far - Umtamvuna (Old Pont), Mibizane River (Southbroom River) and Impenjati Reserve (Near Palm Beach).


In all of these rivers you will be able to use your duck with a sneaker motor (no petrol motors at Southbroom or Impenjati). There are loads of small kingies, rock salmon, sea pike, kob etc and the best way to catch them is with small rapalas and poppers. The upper reaches always produce more quality fish than lower down.

I do recommend the Umtamvuna River. If the fishing is not good, the scenery makes up for it.

I was staying in Trafalgar a few months ago. I didnt think there were fish left in the South Coast estuaries. After seeing a YouTube video of a guy catching at Mpenjati I decided to go for a cast. First cast with this popper and this Big Eye kingie couldn't resist!  :gt:
