Rapids Paradise and Vaalbank
« on: July 01, 2011, 08:52:04 AM »
Hi Guys,

Can you please give me info on these two resorts, I am looking for details like facilities available, safety and security, camping and/or chalets, anything that you can let me know, We are planning a fishing trip with a group of guys, many of them first timers and I want it to be a good experience for them all.

Perhaps you might be able to suggest a better spot to take them.

Many thanks

Hi zkadir dont know anything about these 2 venues but have a look at these links hope they help a bit!

Renosterkop dam and loskop should also be considered there is good bank fishing at both these venues and great camping/chalet facilities, just dont expect to catch 5kg Carp off the bank, lots of small fish between 500 grams and 2.5 kgs...

If it's specifically the Vaal that you want to go to, there are 2 booklets available in most fishing shops. They are the Makatoerie ( sp) guides. One is Vaal Dam specific, the other the Vaal river specific.
It also depends on which species you will be targeting as to which venue would best suit you.
Rapids Paradise has camping, ( no  chalets ) and can get fairly crowded on weekends. Both bank angling and in river flyfishing for sm yellows are possible here. I think day rates are R40 per car and R20 pp. I have no idea what the camping rates are.

AFAIK , Vaalbank is a bank angling area, but have never been there myself.

The booklets metioned earlier are very good, and value for money.
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".
