I know that trace well, however i personally don't like to use it. The good thing about this trace is that with 3 hooks you can't miss your  :brnz: :shrk:, but on the opposite side hte more hooks you use the harder and more time consuming it becomes to remove them. You want to keep the damage to your fish to a bare minimum...

@J-rock
the good news it wasnt very time consuming removing the hooks. with a long hook remover, couple of secs and over. the bites we had were very similar to a circle caught on the side of the mouth. or it could have possibly been our luck.i am working on a circle hook version and will test it out before i post it up. some guys use a 1 hook, most guys use a two hook trace. i have noticed, depending on the missed pickup, some times the head gets taken missing you hook or the tail or clean in the middle missing the two hooks.  the circle hook trace could work beta.

Its a good trace and i like the idea of the float but i personally would not use as i feel that a one or two hook trace will still do the same job ....well and if you fish league or nationals, you are only allowed a maximum of two "J" hooks or 1 treble hook....but it works....nice grey
I only fish on days that end with"Y"....

@ stringbean - shot bro.... maybe i could delete the 3 hook...  :-)
the advantage with the float is 9 out of 10 times you will get picked up by a shark instead of a flatty. thats if you specifically targeting sharks. Or any other top feeding predator for tht matter.

true as nuts those greys do like a floated bait...instead of big float rather tie a piece of high density foam to your hook...and then your bait on the foam. This should work better and improve you casting distance aswell. The big float will def shorten you cast...tight lines

I also prefer the HDF on the hook inside my bait...

nice drawing :corrct: :corrct:

my feeling is that 3 hooks are a bit overkill, you only actually need 1

The reason 2 hooks are used on, say a mackerel or chokka slide, is (generally) because 1 of 2 things may happen.
1 - a small shark picks up the bait, the weight is in the head so the tail will lift, and it will take a bite half way down the mackerel (typical grey, hammer, hound bite). Boom and its vas on the bottom hook.

2 - something that can swallow the fish whole does just that, and the first(top) hook is the first to hit the corner of the mouth on the way out (ideal scissor hookup)

When targeting beeeeg   :brnz: :shrk:  with baits to match, just 1 circle hook is used because the shark will (hopefully) take the bait in one go. This doesnt apply to swimbaits and honestly, who would want to hook up onto a  :brnz:  that can swallow another shark whole  :nuts:
