Correct Nick, which Atolls are you going to fish? We're obviously mobile but thought to start around Baa, seen some fair GT'S from there!

Hi Poenie, this last may I fished the Baa Atoll but we stayed at a resort. The weather was not to good but I had some good shots at decent fish and actually got bust off! Just make sure you spend most of your time on the western outside edge if you want bigger fish. We fishing a bit further up and going to fish down towards Baa then stay a couple of nights in Baa for the guys to relax.

I also made a bit of a mistake by using heavy hooks ST76 on PE6 and a 8.5ft rod. So I was getting fantastic casting distance and getting good bites but hok up ration was not to good. Use ST66 or Shout Curve etc. Most of the takes were on 120gr size lures in blue or pink mainly stickbaits and pencil poppers.

Cheers,
Nick

Shot Nick, was thinking of using my TempleReef Reefer 711/10 with Stella 14, but might be a little on the heavy side for the area. I'm looking for a 8'6 rod to pair with Stella8000 which I recon will be my main stickbait outfit. PE6 probably best...

Ya I recon the TR711 will be to heavy for the Maldives but worth taking and putting on a big lure. We have had a couple of 40kg fish on heavy gear that the guys stuck to their guns. But you want something that is light and you can cast all day. Last trip I used a Carpenter 85/36 and the Shimano Ocean 8.5ft. Both with Stella 14Ks. But 10k or 8k all good. Basically the person that casts the furtherest catches the most. Distance is king.

Poena.

Call up Craig at CDS.

He built me an 8,6ft rod that is very sweet. Same outfit im taking with me!

Have clapped a couple of 35kg + ers with it aswell and it handled the bigger fish easy peasy.
