DIY Mods to cooler box
« on: June 03, 2011, 09:15:57 AM »
How many of you had the misfortune that your bait sarted melting wile fishing? Well, i had. So i came up with this idea to take a old milk crate and cut a piece of it to fit inside the chiller. This act as boundary between the water and bait. Also this enhances the cold airflow to go underneath the bait, keeping it cooler for a long time.
Use it, dont use it.Itworks for me.

That's clever Hooch.
I've been toying with the idea to add a vacuum to the cooler box.
Add balls the size of tennis balls to the available space in the cooler box but these balls must have a vacuum or at least filled with CO2 (which is an excellent insulator). But I doubt that the effort will make a significant difference.

Great idea (clap) It also work well when you have a large coolerbox fillied with Ice and you want to keep something cool that must not get wet. We use a veggy rack with the legs cut off on the correct height and I keep snacks and stuff like that in the rack and the   in the ice.

Newspaper is unbelievable in my mind! Putting this in context, i have a cheap polystyrene bait box for my ski. Last week i was loading around 8 baits into it and stuffing the box with newspaper and then putting another 4 on top (These 4 were the first baits to be used). Certain days (fishing was slow) when i hardly opened the box at all, the bottom baits were still frozen after 8 hours of fishing! Not bad in my mind...

This changes dramatically when one lifts the newspaper to get at the bottom baits frequently or the newspaper gets wet.
