All fine here, thanks. Great post! I am always worried about my shades and that pouch is a very good feature! I have the Sensation Explorer which is a lot smaller but still very organised. It has got a couple of nice features like a removable reel bag on top and a small build-in cooler bag which is great to hold a couple of Energades.

Always interesting to see how others tackle (no pun intended) the same problem!

I am a pretty disorganized fella so don't like the big packs any longer. I fished the first day of Nationals out of a moonbag!!! Thats right a moonbag with one throw bait trace pouch (20 traces), 1 slide pouch (5 slides plus 5 stopper rings with steel attached), 3 reels of bait cotton (my own brand), packet of wires for pinning hooks in bait. Spare roll of 1mm leader and 2 tapered leaders. a packet of 90 and 150lb steel for incase, a plier and a side cutter! Knife, chokka hammer and spare scissor were in the bait box and my small utility knife and scissor are on my rod bucket belt. 2 rods with reels carried in hand as well as 1 sand spike, only for use when baiting up second stick! (also penn and stakes for measuring and recording fish!

Only problem I had was carrying my baitbox, it is VERY uncomfortable in hand so basically took my h-frame for the next two days.....funny thing is I was short of nothing on the first day but always seemed to be short of something when I had the big box with.....

P.S. I did always have a backup ammo box on the bakkie filled to the brim with spare tackle including reels and spools of line!

I have been toying with the idea of using a Fly style vest for rock and surf . Any reason you guys think it might not work ?

Don't fall in the water. I use a fly vest when spinning in the lagoon. It can carry a whole variety of plugs, spoons and everything else you need. The only problem is that it can become a bit bulky and heavy when loaded with 20-30 lures.

You guys are really serious about this tackle box thing!!!! I guess if you only have a limited time to fish and have to drive 1000's km to do it... either do it proper and stay home! Can't risk failing because of poor prep...

I usually take too much junk on my little duck (mostly because I'm always experimenting new DIY stuff!), but its nothing spectacular... a couple of pliers, knives, bait cotton, rod buckets, spare snap swivels, and at least 25-30 different lures (feather, konas, rapies, etc) + birds and teasers...

We use something similar for reef fishing, call it a battle jacket.

Here is my setup:
Tackle bag on top of my Fishing Buddy backpack. I put my bait, rod bucket, lip grip and warm clothing in the black container. On top of the removable reel bag is a clip with my scissors. In my reel bag goes my reels, cell phone, bait cotton and headlamp.

Underneath the reel bag is a build-in cooler compartment for the refreshments.  :hnthnt:
The left side pocket contains my fishing permit, camera, reel repair tools and measuring tape. The right pocket contains extra line, leader material, binding wire, extra knife and pantyhose (for catching crabs). The front pocket contains extra pair of scissors, chokka hammer, trace wire, fish scaler, bait foam and various other goodies.

The main compartment contains my cutting board and also 4 plastic containers with compartments. It also has a pouch in the front for extra packets of hooks and swivels.

The 4 containers clockwise from top left: 1. hooks and swivels for R&S. 2. sinkers for R&S. 3. This is my basic all rounder which always stay in the bag. It contains pliers and a side cutter, sinkers, swivels, hooks and various plugs and spoons. 4. this is my lagoon container with smaller hooks, sinkers and swivels.
I also use a fly vest for spinning and a double pouch moon-bag when fishing for mullet.
My bag is always packed and ready to go.  :yipee: :fshn:

My tackle box has the following:
2 smaller terminal tackle boxes.
1 smaller box for bait finishing goodies.
Trace pouch.
Sinker tubs.
Spools of different leader line.
Sun block.

Not in the picture are: pliers, hook remover and raincoat. My bait knife, scissors, mallet and bait cotton all live in the bait chiller. Fold up bucket straps onto the chiller.

Personally I don't like to tie traces when actually fishing so I try to make up as many traces as possible beforehand. Obviously in some cases you have to tie a trace up so thats why carry the 2 smaller tackle boxes. One has heavy stuff for sliding/throwbait purposes and the other has general size stuff for scratching and surf fishing.

I have a big 4 tray tackle box with big stocks of hooks, swivels, trace wire etc which usually stays home/at the camp, while fishing. I just take a pinch of what I'll need for each session and pack that into the smaller boxes.

The 3rd box has cable ties, pins toothpicks etc for finishing baits.
The trace bag has trace wires, wind on leaders, slide traces, scratching traces etc in it.

Depending on where I'm fishing, my reels are usually on the rods, I don't carry them in the box but theres enough space for my spare in the box.
