2010/2011 Recreational fishing regulations
« on: January 19, 2011, 11:42:14 AM »
Attached below .pdf doc - Here are the new Regulations as released by DAFF - Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing.
Their new website.... http://www.daff.gov.za/

There are no major changes that I can see, except the regulations governing West Coast Lobster, which Mudcrab detailed in this post...

Will check it out...

I see that the Document listed on the DAFF Website under Regulations is still the old one, but on the Fisheries website, under Recreational angling>Regulations, the new one is made available...  duh

Marthin... typical!! Coppers are missing off the list!! This gives the Transkei rapists a huge loophole to continue their plundering! I'm sure the Border Angling guys must be very woried about this!

I have emailed the list to John Rance (Border deep Sea Angling association Environmental officer) for clarification. At present it iss till open in Border and guys are continuing to catch them. I also see that Wreck fish have again been omitted from the prohibited list.

Do these idiots not realize that by issuing incorrect documents like this, they create loopholes that guys will exploit. If a fish is not on either list, in theory it falls within the max 10pppd category. Not ideal if guys start clubbing these sort of numbers now.

My concerns exactly Tkei. Hope the Border guys can use their clout to get clarification....

I notice Chokka now has three closed seasons.

12:00 19 March - 12:00 9 April
12:00 23 July - 12:00 13 August
12:00 19 Oct - 12:00 23 November.

Does 12:00 refer to mid night or midday?

Generally 12:00 refers to noon and 00:00 midnight but with these  swr setting up legal documents it can mean anything

I had a quick peek on the DAFF site, not expecting the 2012 brochure to be up yet, but lo and behold:

I've only had a quick peruse....

Thanks for this Rory!  :+ cred:

Looks like they've added a lot more info on MPA's and "closed areas" for Lobster fishing. Also they've added the Copper Steenbras back onto the list of permitted species (they left it out last year) - and still no closed season on it...

Yeah that was the first thing I looked for, will have to see what happens with the Coppers this year...

One question... The limit of 10 fish per day obviously excludes the fish caught in a cast net? As it requires a different license?

Is that correct  :cnfzd ?
