Hi Guys,

Off to Bilene on the 3rd Dec 2010. First visit. Anyone got any tips or advice on fishing in the lake and offshore?

Hi KFowle,

There's fantastic fishing in Bilene (offshore) if you can get there. The mouth seems to be closed (?) but even when opened it is a VERY difficult launch!

I doubt you'll catch a thing on the lake (heavily overfished!!!), but try R&S on the ocean side (don't fish inside the reserve! SW side of the cliff!)... I'm sure you'll get something there...

Good luck!

Was there a few months ago and can confirm the lake is dead. However I was informed that there are a few deep holes and some big fish hide in them.

We fished the beach around the mouth and got some Pompano and other smallies. The launch thru the mouth seems to be interesting. I didnt actually see a boat go thru but friends have done it and the locals claim to do it. It does look pretty tricky. Also to get from the lake proper to the mouth area you have to traverse a very shallow area and theres only one narrow channel. If you miss it you are stuck. Wait for a local who is going to the mouth and follow him!

hi there
i had the chance to fish there a few years back. the lake is dead...alot of small fish in there tho...but try on the surf side. get on of the locals to guide you down to the beach, its a long walk down the dunes but the surf is excellent there, we tried with those fresh prawns from the lake.....and got some nice stumpies. if you try with red eye u can catch coata of the surf there....excellent place....wish i could come with u....good luck and tight lines/

Have been there before too but the lake/estuary (?) mouth was closed then and the lake was seriously vrot! There was no fish then.

It reeked so that nobody would have wanted to fish in it anyway. Was informed then that it was a serious health hazard. Perhaps things have changed since the mouth was open for long after that.
