Well done PA aswome fish.

I am sure there was no swearing during the battle!!!

I know exaclty what you mean there is no fish that can pull like a doggie when hooked deep.  Its absolute crazy how hard you have to pull to stop them!

My first monring ever jigging for them had the scrore at Doogies 6 me 0 - Son of Fish!!

Managed to start evening the score later!!

Mike it was an awesome experience, trying to figure out how to land them and what tackle to use. The doggies takes you at about 70 to 80 meters and then he runs with you to the bricks, you got to turn the fish and stop him from wrapping you up, I managed that and landed mine, word record Doggies is waiting down there if you can manage to land it

Never had a doggie but Bruce has made some very intresting posts about jigging them that I am curious.

What lenght leaders were you guys using ?

Hi Ferdo the rig I used to land my doggie is rod  three kings special and  JM PE 8 real filed with Jig man ultra PE8. Leader Suffix zippy 200lb mono 8 meter long, PR knot leader to line and the best terminal knot that never failed me to heavy mono must be the thumb knot by Jeff Wilson a winner for sure. Then BOX JOUR SOCK OFF enjoy Fernando

The fish is childish... Not behaving! The fish is disrespectful!

It's a good comment, not bad! Don't stress!

For interest (to some and not others), the spearo's in Latham broke the world spearfishing record last week for dogtooth tuna: was 90 something kilos (also from Latham), is now a massive 110kg!

Thanks Nico yes we will see more and more of these doggies that will come out now that they are being targeted, the next step is to make sure that we release the fish properly after a long discussion the tour group operator decide that it will be better for the fish not to leave the water and all photos will be done in the water to minimise stress to the fish in my case it took some time to recover the doggie, I even took it for a swim. All fish was safely returned. A doggie texture is actually very soft and you can damage the fish just by handling it

ONDE ONDA can you help me out with a few particulars please. I was wondering what type of Live Bait rig you were using. Bridled the bait or two singles, size of hooks etc?

If you had to estimate the weight of the one you landed, what will it be approximately?
If you had to measure up the one you landed with the ones you lost, where on the scale would you place some of the ones lost?
Where on St Lazarus did you find the most Doggies. Between the two pins or Sea side of larger pin or inshore of smaller pin etc?

Just curious and would love to know.

Thanks Johan

That fish must have given him a run for his money. Some incredible power for a spearo to have to deal with. Extreme achievement.

Not sure if you witnessed it before but Mike's namesake Laubscher on one of the charter boats there missed the rod and line world record with just a few kg's. They definately have an incredible breeding ground there.

Do you think that fish living at depth (doggies) are safer from commercial fishing ex. Seine Netting etc. due to the depth they live at? I'm asking this to determine if we are their main interruption in their particular ecology or if the threat on these species remain the same as with others.

When that was sent to me I couldn't believe it! One thing I can tell you, their Spearo bookings are going to go through the roof!
