Old line... what to do with it?
« on: November 19, 2010, 08:14:58 PM »
Had to put new line on 2 of my 50 Lb reels (tanx Fritz! http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php/topic,2859.0.html) and ended up with lot's of line... now what to do with it?

Simply throw it away? Thought about giving it away to local artisanal fishermen which don't target large fish from the shore...

What do you guys do?

Thanks

I keep most of my old line and take it with me to the transkei when I fish my postal rounds and give it to the gillies that help us. They really appreciate it as they will use it until it cant be used anymore. That way it is not all going to waste and you can help the less fortunate
A wise man once told me life is to short for ugly girls and cheap fishing tackle!

next time you have a braai, gooi it in the fire....gone in 60 sec's.....that is if you don't have another worthy cause like a needy fisherman.
I know life's a gamble, but I'm taking that chance anyway.

Morning John F

Only glad to have been able to help.

I get rid off the line and dont give it to my gillies in the Transkei. I know it sounds very harsh but if you look at the amount of plundering that goes on in the Transkei you would think again about what to do with it.

I pay my gillies to do the work that I need them to do.

Just remember too that line dumped in the rubbish bin, goes to the Municipal  dump - there it sits and nylon is not biodegradable. All the birds and animals that feed off rubbish dumps have the potential of being wrapped/snagged in nylon... be responsible about disposing of line please. Burn it is the best way.

Burn it every time I'm on the local river I see dead birds hanging from trees after trying to make nests with fishing line.
