Fishing trip of a lifetime

FISHING TRIP OF A LIFETIME ST LAZURUS BANKS
Myself Johan, Craig, Roy, Don and Lukas captain of the boat St lazurus and pro fishing guide John left for the banks from Pemba. The trip took us along several islands and a night over stay close to one of them. 00:00 hr. that night Lukas started engines and proceeded to the banks while we were sleeping, arrival time 7:30 on the banks. Fishing started off slow as all of us was gobsmacked at the calm sea and clear water visibility, 60meter visibility from the boat into the water no problem, trawling stick bait and poppers to find were the GT where feeding and then the fun begun popping for GT, it must be the most fun ever an adrenalin rush of note, if you haven’t tried it you missing out big time. +_ 70 fish was landed GT I personally landed 16, Wahoo stopped counting at 10 Wahoo can be a pest there, dogtooth tuna, monster YF out there and for the best news of all no shark to take your fish not like Protea banks, the sharks feed naturally and not by Dive Charters!!!!!!!
Many thanks to Lukas, Martie and John for this trip of a lifetime will definitely do it again.

Johan now I know what has kept you so busy man. Well done. Now that is showing how it should be done. Awesome stuff and keep the pics coming.

To all the boys that fish here, congratulations on an incredible effort. Really have to chalk this one down for a visit indeed.

It was without a doubt a memorable trip majority GTs  was on poppers and my favourite popper that slept with me was a CUBERA 150 blue, will send some picks of them. Surface popping is the outmost of fishing for GTs, my mates will tell you the fun I had with my GTs. The Doggy was landed on live bait, 1x Bonny with some heavy weights to go down. The Black Jack Caranx Lugubris on Jig Deep 100m + and the wahoo was all on surface with no other than the wahoo stick bait !!!! and the best was 4 sail fish hitting my stick-bait 20 m from  the boat. We hooked a sail fish but as fishing goes sometimes you get bill raped and then it is history.

Obragado Johann!!!!

Trip was awesome! Up there in "Best of life mode"!!!!

Spoke to Nico earlier - not sure if anyone on UA is keen.... but JSA is hosting 2 x back-to-backs in April, and another 2 in October to SLB. Jigging/Popping exclusively. She does 10 runs a year, and 4 are booked with us, so for the "believers" time is important..... opps to do this trip are running out quickly.

Take it, or ignore it?

Over the next few days - I will add the ocasional pic that Johann hasn't posted. Lots to analyse! Over 400 quality images to go through.

Full trip report with the PRIME pics will be in Rock, Surf & Deep - 2 Part Editorial for December 2010 and January 2011.

Cheers RB

The puppy was on live bait but from what I herd 100 kg doggie is in that area. To jig there is a bit difficult due to the water clarity. doggies run deep 70meter +
