Kingfisher Leader line spools

Went to stock up on some leader line this weekend, and I see that kingfisher has made their spools MUCH smaller.


Now this is great as it takes up less space in the tackle bag,
BUT,
the line is now permanently coiled ! It just causes too much memory, and I'd hate to make a trace that coils like that !


What were they thinking ??? Surely someone would have thought of that ???

Homie this is the same ppl who wind the line loosely onto their Giant abrasion spools.... so loosely you cant actually use it! Maybe they are now compensating with overly tightly wound leader line. Th solution is to use shogun leader it comes wonderfully packaged on spools....Wait thats not right

How is that priced, and whats the quality like ??? I must say, I really liked the KF leader, but now with this, I really will not use it !

Homie , I have got a couple of the new smaller spools and they don't coil , maybe you just got a bad batch.  A good Alternative is T-line ( under 30 bucks for 100m ) speak to AndriesH.

I opened the .90 and it was terrible !

The smaller sizes (.65etc) wasnt too bad, but still not lekker.
I planned on going to Andries on Sat, but just didnt have enough time ! Managed to get some of the last bigger spools though, so all ok, just dont like the new spools...
Really think that there is NO thought going into the changing of their products !

Maxima Ultragreen.... .65 is perfect for eds from the beach , thats what i use for leaders, as well as on all my terminal tackle... It's tough as nails

when the trace still coils up, it means that your bait is still too small for that dia of line.

this is also a reason why i try not to make traces ahead of it's time.

traces in the evening for tomorrow.maybe maxima is the answer to your questions....................

Lol sorry Homie I was being sarcastic about the shogun leader. It doesnt even come on a spool I think it is meant for handlines. That stuff is a mission to work with when making wind ons since it tangles up around itself. It is very good for abrasion resistance and is like half the price of Maxima

I know they handlines, didnt see them in spools before, hence was wondering !

Yup guys, maxima looks like the way to go ! Just never had a need for it before, NEVER had KF leader fail, so never needed to change, was always happy with it.

I love maxima ultra green! but its pricey!

in 1.2mm i use perlon for R34 but it comes in those loose rolls but have also used suffix zippy once but its R80ish for 50m!!!!!!

in 1mm i like to use maxima but also sometimes use suffix zippy which is also pricey but has a great spool! or perlon which comes loose in those handline rolls but is R34 i think and last week i bought a 1mm tline spool which comes on a spool similar to maxima and feels similar to kingfisher but is R34.50 i think!

in 0.80 i have used tline and like it aswell as maxima which i love but its also expensive and i go through 0.80 at a rate of knots and tline works well so why not use it???

in 0.70 i like to use relix it has almost NO memory what so ever and comes on a spool like the suffix zippy one! it is like R40 somthing so might aswell spend the cash on maxima though but i like them both alot and it just depends what the shop has stock of...

in anything lower i use maxima ultra green and it is awesome!


I normally keep the following diameters in my box depending on the area...
0.30 if im fishing for blacktails etc
0.40 for sinkerline on my edibles tackle
0.50 for galjoen and stumpnose
0.60 for lightish cob and sandies and that type of fishing aswell as light leaders.
0.70 for bigger cob and if there are elf in the water but i also am fishing for cob so dont want steel...or leader
0.80 for smoothies and also for cob if the elf is around... or for leader
1mm for leader for shark and flatfish
1.2mm leader for shark
then wind ons

Totally agree about premade traces ! I do exactly the same.
This line was .8 to use as a heavy leader, or heavier hook snoods. With the amount of twist in this line, if you added a big bait with flotation, it would still coil underwater ! It was that bad !
