Daiwa''s J-Braid Diameter

Hi,
Seem a bit confuse by Daiwa different diameter in the braid line.


60lb - 0.28mm
65lb - 0.41mm (only 5lb extra)
80lb - 0.35mm (thinner than 65lb???????)


So which is which?

That's quite weird...!? Some of those labels are dodgy...

Yeah, that what I got too. But seeing a 80lb only 0.35mm, that sound unreal.

Try to spool my reel with braid 50lb/0.28mm to a spool and it wont even fit 300m.  As the spool clearly indicate 0.44/300m

Most likely because braid isn't round but flat, well most braid and that's why you don't get as much on the spool.

Also braid manufacturers lie through their teeth when it comes to diameters, and breaking strains.. I use braid for the last 3 years from a local dyneema manufacturer..If you read online on dyneema or spectra, it is assumed that there are only two manufacturers/ factories, one for each and every brand of either made there and rebranded, and then the chinese knock-offs, but actually there are also a very few licenced dyneema factories around the globe too that make the line themselves to the same standard as the dutch from the supplied raw UHMW HDPE and can use the dyneema branding under licence..

We have a local brand/factory (HMP line) that specializes in lines for parachutists and they supply militaries around the world, they started making fishing line in the last few years too and it is the best line I have been able to get my hands on. It costs here half the price of import lines that are half its' quality, cheaper as it is made locally. The breaking strains and diameters are accurate and the line is supple, reliable and  smooth..casts beautifully and 30lb is 30lb and .4mm is .4mm etc..as it says on package so it is..some of that line has been on reels for nearly 4 seasons now and has outlasted all the other international brands..

Take published and printed data with a pinch of salt when it comes to breaking strains etc..look at the line, does the weave suit you..is it supple, how thick is it? Does it cast nice, does it last, is it of uniform strength and is it dependable. Compare it to mono of known thickness and you can get a guage..then once you find the line that works for you stick to it..

You might be able to order the HMP online somewhere, if you can, I wholly recommend it. 110%

We have been chatting on another forum (think ZAfisher....)
Seriously consider dropping braid BS for the smaller of your two reels (the banax 5000) and buy one of your locally available known brands.
You mentioned that Power Pro and J braid are available?
You really don't need a braid that breaks at 70lb plus to target mackerel and trevally from the beach.
Spool up the Banax with 300 yards of 30lb PP or 300m 30lb J braid, they both break at close to 50lb.Then fill the reel with the heavy braid you have, reverse everything and you will be fine.
I understand your reels state that they can cope with "X" m of 0.44mm line, but that is going to hinder performance dramatically.1. You WILL cast further.
2. It will be a lot less like casting rope, 0.44mm line of ANY sort is not fun off a fixed spool reel

You are right, will try to shop for a local brand 30lb to go with 300m of my Banax spool.
