Saturday's weather was forecasted to be excellent throught the week and I was amped for a social fishing out with my dad, brother and my son Matheo. First time the whole Pereira clan was fishing together offshore!!!!!
Low tide was at 05.36 am and being the peak of the neap tide we would have enough water to launch the boat at 06.30.
Caught some live bait the day before and kept it in my bait cage at the dock. So that was sorted. Plan was do a bit of trolling, drifting and bottom fishing thus looking after everyone's favorite fishing technique.
Indeed, by 06:30 we were at the ramp and went on to collect the bait, which went on flawlessly. Very happy with the overall functionality of the setup. All baits were accounted for, alive and frisky.
Water temp inside the bay was just over 21o C so it is cooling down steadily. Offshore it went up to 23.4o C throughout the day and was reasonably clean. The NE was puffing at 8-10 kts causing that unconfortable head chop that got us bangging for 2.5 h to cover 25 nm... bloody hell it was well and miserable. Think my dad will not be accepting my invitations anytime soon!!!
We trolled for couta for about 2.5 h and only caught a rat that my son Matheo reeled in very swiftly. A small kakaap also attacked an x-rap and then we decided to try for some bottoms and do a bit of drifting with live and dead baits on balloons. Nothing on the drift baits... caught a nice variety of bottoms (good sizes too) tried some more trolling on our way back with no success.
Overall a tough day out there. We managed to bring some fish home and spend great time fishing as a family... and for that I'm grateful!!!
