Hi guys thought I would just run through a trace Gavin and I have used successfully for Kob in the Eastern Cape.

Its quick, simple and easy.

First you need some large orange floats, toothpicks, power swivels, scissors, strong fluorocarbon and then 4/0 hooks, I have used some flipping strong Mustads here.

Get your fluoro to about 60 centimeters.

Tie on your swivel. Use an improved clinch knot or figure of 8.

Slide your orange float up the line and secure it with a toothpick.

Tie on your hook with the float 10-15 centimeters above it, and boom there you have it!

This what I have been using except I did not use a toothpick to hold the bead. So the bead slid up to against the bait.

Used to use that technique as well, and caught some cool fish on it, but have found this method has been a lot more successful for me recently (Obviously not this time yet lol)

I very seldom use a flout on a cob trace. If I do I normaly put it inside the bait.

I know many anglers who use it, seems to work well between EL and PE, have seen a 40kg Kob come out on a trace like that... Actually got one today on that exact same trace

Hannes I use 20lb fluorocarbon tied to the top of the swivel (Where the main line attaches). I use a 40cm - 50cm piece of fluoro (So its shorter than the 60cm trace so I dont clip the bait).

I can take a pic next time I go? Hopefully this evening...

Bit of an old wives tale I strongly believe in Marcos... Want everything to be as "invisible" as possible. I use mono at night and fluoro in the day for the sinker line.

Peculiarly enough , I read a very detailed and comprehensively presented article recently regarding the actual " INVISIBILITY " chacharacteristics of flouro.
Essentially what was done was that under controlled conditions light was shone through flouro and various other nonofilaments to create an index of their light refracting properties. It concluded that the difference was so small as to render it ,insignificant. Thus the advantages of flouro were brought into question.
Now when I fish for cob it's always in mixing , off coloured water or in the dark. Under those conditions I am prett2ysure it makes no difference.
So often I see anglers on the rocks and their boats fishing with bright orange , yello , blue , dark green nylon to their hooks. That will definitely handicap your efforts.
Something else to consider is the thickness to the hook. It's pointless tying a no 6 hook to 50 lb nylon. Much better to use appropriate thickness nylon to your hook. I always fish as light and clear as possible
I wonder if us anglers are not victims of marketing again as I have been using flouro since it's earearliest appearance on the market almost 30 years ago in the flyfishing stores.

Makes you wonder.
