Mcarthy Paddle tail rigs

Good day to you


I need help in setting up a rig for a Mcarthy paddle tail. I've got the Paddle Tails but need to know what weight I should be using and how the rig should look. Some tips would also be helpful

 Size of the Jighead all depends on what rod, reel, line you are using, as to what weight you're going to cast?
Then the size/weight of the jighead will determine the size of the paddletail... I try match the lead head to fit streamlined with the front of the Paddle tail.

Could also try this out - gives  flexibility in terms of hook size (and quality) vs weight as an example 5/0 hook with 2oz pear sinker - really useful if you need a LOOOONG cast like say off the island at Mazeppa.
Cats paw to the hook eye. Suggest Fireline as it is more rigid and is less likely to foul on the hook shank or mainline. Braid is too limp and will   foul on the hook or line. The cats paw adds rigidity. More closely resembles an actual bass style dropshot rig, just much more secure line to weight connection.

His method is just much more refined than the one I have used in the past.
If you happen (like me) to really enjoy targeting fish with small mouths on plastics, this opens up the possibility of using a small strong hook with heavier weights such that you can use a hook a fish can easily get into its mouth with the right amount of weight for easy casting and better bottom contact.

i mainly fish for kob with paddletails , so we use bigger jigheads in the surf and rocks , jig heads from 1 to 2 ounces gets the job done and a few other rigs , think reedman p[osted the link of barry wareman , if not look for it , it has plenty of info you are after .

I am no expert at kob on paddle tail but the following usually applies.
For kob in the surf, casting distance becomes important, so you might go as large as a 3 once jighead on a 3/0 to 5/0 hook, depending on your rod and reel.
Guys look out for rolling foaming water over a sandbank, washing into a gutter, and you sometimes need to be able to do a long distance cast to reach the banks.
The Eastern cape fisherman should be able to add more here, as they pioneered catching kob on paddle tail.
