Hi U.A - Can somebody please tell me what is the correct method to use to test the drag of multiplier reels ? Will it work if I hooked the scale on the reel hold it in my hand move till the scale give me a reading when the drags can't hold anymore ?
Thanks

Best to lock down the rod and pull the line through the eyes of the rod connected to a scale.

Drag is typically set to 1/4 or 1/3 the line break strength. Mainly because as the diameter of the spool gets smaller the drag weight tension increases.

I did this with 30b braided line just recently setting the drag at 5 lbs. When I walked back to 100 meters the line broke. The increase in tension was increasing due to the shrinking spool went up to 25lbs which was the last number I saw on the scale.

It's a balance between a heavy enough drag to set a hook proper and light enough to increase with a shrinking spool. One reason that I believe circle hooks are such successful tools at securing a fish. No hook setting is used. The fish hooks itself.

In any case it's worth playing with this, using a rod holder and a scale to see how your equipment works.

Thanks JJHack for the info.
I'll test it both ways and see what the difference is - .
I will record both readings and compare to the rated drag ratio.
Thanks a million !!
