Just a warning to those with kiddies, ritalin's active methylphenidate, is a sister chemical to Tik, methampethamine, which is itself prescribed to kiddies in a less potent form too in other countries. It doesn't relax them but gives them intense, controlled by slow release, focus. It also primes their brain for addiction later on via the dopamine pathways. This methylphenidate has exactly the same effects as speed but is actually more intense, considerably more potent and more habit forming than speed, just a friendly heads up. Ritalin is not the answer haha!

First for anyone with depression, get off the sugar and get your gut flora and fauna right again, eat dirt even if you have to..dirt is half joke.. Your gut bacteria are involved with your serotonin right, get up and down cycles under control by eliminating processed foods and sugar and see the difference. Eat well and feel good, drink spring water that you get yourself and see the difference, eat veggies that you grow yourself and see the therapy value for your self. My 2c. Drugs are not answers, just tools to finding answers. Once you find the root of the problem, ie, serotonin or dopamine issue, then diet and lifestyle is the best long lasting change you can make to bring these systems back to homeostasis. Legumes and red meat feed dopamine as does getting off sugar, getting your gut and getting off sugar gets serotonin in check. Sometimes a visionary experience with a natural serotonin mimic helps with the entire thing but that heavily depends on the person and situation and of course access.

That is YOUR opinion. The laat lammetjie in our family battled throughout her primary school career. Poor marks, lack of focus, inability to follow instructions which all led to very poor relationship between her and my mom. Constant fighting at home. Teachers eventually said she would need to think very carefully about subject choices to ensure she managed to get through her high school years.

Luckily in her first year of high school she saw a Psychologist who referred her to a Doctor who prescribed her Ritalin. Fast forward to her senior phase of high school and she will now be awarded her academic colours this year and is cruising through her maths and science. Two subjects she was told she would never pass. So please don't make the broad statement that Ritalin is not the answer. In the right circumstances Ritalin can be life changing

I have been on Serdep 100 mg for two years since my divorce, wich came as a huge shock. I could probably cope without it, but I have noticed that I am a more pleasant person  when being on  it!  I am less agressive and dont get agitated as easily.

Raising two kids by yourself, is not an easy job, in fact, I have no idea how so many single woman cope financially or emotionaly doing this.

Also the fact that I only get to fish the saltwater once or perhaps twice a year doesnt help either.

It is my opinion yes..But way back in the day when I was an amateur chemist, I learned first hand that that ritalin and meth work EXACTLY the same, the stuff in ritalin is just more fiendish and way more potent. I hadn't touched meth in years when I made some "ritalin" more than a decade ago, only had the speed once or twice at a rave in the 90's, and never touched ritalin again since I figured that it pretty much the same. Like they work identical, the same. Like meth is yellowfin and methylphenidate is bluefin the same, both tuna, both fish, both, both, one just badder, not meth as bad as it is etc... Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Slow release binders make all the difference in those innocent little tablets. So be warned that is all. Short term fix that works exceptionally well yes, but not long term answer. In your case you have isolated the chemical root of lack of dopamine as creating symptoms. Be sure to initiate other things that will lift the spirit, like achieving goals and through hobbies and healthy social interaction, seriously look into yoga and/or meditation and also include in the diet those natural foods which contain the precursers l-dopa and tyrosine, daily. Also look carefully at sugar and its inclusion in the diet through processed foods and drinks (cooldrinks and fruitjuices etc.) and try get in control of that and drop the intake right down and get through the initial crashes as sugar and ones blood sugar goes hand in hand with up and down dopamine cycles. And just be warned that is all, I have had many friends who were on ritalin as kids and most as adults just kept on searching for that dopamine fix. Some found it in surfing, fishing, speafishing and rock climbing and others found it in a pipe or other fix..Forewarned is forearmed. Most of us are now older and wiser and joke about being ritalin babies..But ja serious stuff to play with your brain chemistry on a long term basis, do not take lightly. Don't want to offend and it is only my opinion, but take care.

Also watch "the sugar movie" if you haven't, it is an eye opener.
