Baits, Dips, Feed
« on: August 27, 2015, 07:20:01 AM »
Hi guys, I would like to hear all your views on the following baits, dips and bomb. There have been a lot of developments in SA's Carp Industry lately and I believe some guys involved in recipes etc. from Supercast started/joined Twin Series.

Has anyone used Twin Series feed, dips or baits?

How many of you use Conoflex, and what are your thoughts here?

I have always been a great believer in Supercast, and always will be, but I would like to change it up a bit every now and then to see if these other brands, that are becoming more competitive and they seem to have had success!

Same stuff, different packaging and clever marketing.

Do yourself a favour and go find an add from supercast where they tell you which dips work at which dams in South Africa, think it was in a bank angling magazine or stywe lywe, cant remember. They make sure that every single dip they offer is covered across the dams in the add, this one works at vaal dam, this one works at roodekoppies etc....etc.... Think about it

Interesting, thanks Zet! Have seen that ad... Do you know if there is any (major) difference across the brands?

I also like the Super Cast dips. But nothing wrong with the Conoflex I know Loukie has made some dips for Super Cast  and I am glad he went on his own.
You can also try Magic Baits some good dips and floaties, mielie bomb not to bad aswell.
I think in all the different bait series there are very good dips.
I LOVE THE SMELL OF FRESH BAIT IN THE MORNING

Just remember G, Loukie made most of supercast's dips before he moved over to conoflex, so its the same thing with a different label.

As far as the other brands go, I don't know but at the end of the day a carp is a fish, they don't wake up one day and decide they are in the mood for a supercast bom with tuti fruti reduction and a side of banana boll dip. I don't fall for the k*K these manufacturers and their ambassadors try to tell us that this and that work better at this dam at this time of day, its all marketing boet. if you have a  :mili: you are sorted

Every guy has his own opinion on this.  Dips do make a huge difference and it has been proven over the years. A moved away from super cast deu to there inconsistency in there produk. Magic bait is also part of supper cast. True cella has nice dips but here on the farm it's always a struggle to get hold of it. William Petri also have alot of nice stuff. Many guys ckaim that every dam has its own preferred dips. For me it's usely not so far apart as people claim it to be.

I  make a 'bomb' ground bait, I used to cook it on the stove but ended up with it in the microwave. I have changed it about a lot but a simple version is

1 x cup bread flour
2  x cup miellie meal
2  x cups chick chick No 1

so far 5 cups so it needs 5 cups of water

also include

2 cups sugar - 1 x white 1 x brown

no more water

add some egg yellow or fluoroscene mix well together and nuke in the microwave, depends on the power of the microwave but give it a couple of minutes at a time and check and stir, it should give you a sticky bomb mix.

I have changed ratios as I've gone along, but 1 x dry + 1 x water excluding sugar seems to work; after it's cooked you can addbird seed, miellie pips, peanuts, hemp seed etc in and an attractant like aniseed, split it into batches and add flavours as you think

As I said it tends to be sticky so it's a good plan to use it as a base and add extra ingredients that will float off, being sticky it tends to cast well

Another thing I've done is pinched the slow cooker, and cooked dried miellies over night with a bit of brown sugar or caramel essence, great as a bait but through a mincer they make a great bomb.

Thanks guys! Awesome info...

Haha no Zeyn, havent used dips for a long time, I just want to know why some guys are more biased towards other products, and what sort of difference there is. I am more concerned about the feed than the hook baits and dips.

The only flavourants I use are essences like vanilla, banana etc.

I think the one thing most social anglers miss is the fact that the dips and floaties sold by these amnufacturers are designed to catch fish in a competitive environment. Try catching fish when you are sharing the bank with 100+ other anglers and the picture changes a bit. Then it becomes more of a science than just casting some mielies and waiting for a bite. There is so much to this aspect of fishing that it will take me a few sessions at the water to explain. People usually just start staring blankly at me when I get to a certainpoint...lol!

Twin Serious is a mix of three anglers whose products had been sold under the Supercast name. There has been some issues apparently and they decided to go their own way.

This was taken from Jumbo Willemse's Facebook page:

We tried the twin series ground bait the weekend, the competition one and feels just like the old kollietjie voer, or popcorn feed. Think the main reson why these guys moved away from supper cast is the fact that the public started to corner them about the consistency of their products. The guys fishing in green and gold gets sponserd by supper cast. When sharing a peck with one of these guys you will find that the dipps in his box does not look like the dipps bought from the shelf. They fish with dipps that consust of a mutch higher concentrate than the products availeble on the shelves. It was a big discussion on the nationals I fished sharing a team with guys like Ulrich Sergal, Robbert Breed, Jan Tolmay, William Petri all guys wearing the green and gold and a few other guys who fisher in the bleu blazers like Joseff de Beer, think he moved up to the green and gold by now, Lampies Jonker, Peter Botha and a few other. Our team leader was oom Jan van der Heever. We had endless deductions on the toppic of the consistency of the products. On the national trials Jumbo said to one guy "you are not the first guy asking that question and I am sure you wount be the last. I don't know" but yes using the right dipp at the right time can catch you loads of fish.
