No swivel Trace

use the same trace when scratching for blactails, the only difference is that I don't cut the line but simply fold the two pieces together and puch the though the hooks eye and over the bend and pull it tight.

Is that 2 overhand knots - or is it two turns in one knot? Cany you use a figure of 8 knot instead (like when you are making loops for connecting your leader to tippet on a fly rod?)

The pic says "Overhand knot x2" ie: 2 overhand knots - there is no simpler knot than an overhand. Why complicate things with a fig 8?

That's a pretty simple way of tying droppers.Just wondering about the strength of the knots?..I normally tie twisted dropper knots but they're a bit more mucking around.Will have to try these out.

Dont worry about the strength of those knots, you arent catching sharks with that trace. I have made my traces like that for years when I fished R&S and caught many large blacktail and some other species on a trace like that.

That's the way I make my traces for bottoms... never had a problem! Getting 2 x 5 kg fish sometimes!

don't forget to make a knot in the sinker line to weaken it.

Been fishing (scratching & bottoms) with that trace since I was a laaitie and it has always worked for me. Just make sure your mainline is strong/thick enough to withstand abrasive teeth.

Doc has improved this trace...

instead of using overhand knots, replace them with Spider Hitches... much stronger!

Hi guys.That trace is very simple and easy to do.Caught many fish on it including Brusher.Its the only trace my wife will use since I taught her it.I also don't cut the line but push it through the hook eye and over again,makes it stronger and also easy for hook change.

I use the same basic trace as Doc's modified one with three differences

1. I use figure 8 knots

2. I make the two hook snoots equal lengths - between 10cm (rocks/rough seas) and 30cm (sand/calm seas)

2. I use the trace in reverse as to the illustration.... that way the hooks snoots stand away from the line and has a bit more movement in the water. Thus I tie an attachment Loop where the sinker is in the illustration and a sinker loop on the opposite side.

I then use a snap swivel on my main line so that I can change between traces (different hook sizes / snoot lengths) as necessary. This also allows me to quickly switch to spoon when the shad comes on the bite.

Dnt under estimate this trace. Pulled a 17kg blue ray and a diamond close to 40kg on this trace while scratchn for sandies... Bullet proof with the hitches...

never had a problem with the hitches.... picked up fish up to 7kilos on this and never had a problem.
i normally use a car spark plug sinker wen scratching in the rocks
