Hi there everyone, Well the tuna have arrived in full force here in Cape Town. We had a great day on Tuesday 9/12/2014 with our Guests Alan and Karl both getting their personal best Yellowfin tuna... Karl managed a fish of 71,68kg... We had some hard luck stories, losing 5 big fish due to burn off, fish biting through the flouro leader and hooks pulling... All in all, a very fun day was had

We are almost fully booked for the rest of Dec and January, but still have some dates available for those that are interested in hooking into a bus of a fish

Do the client s keep the fish or do they stay with the boat?
Can't imagine what the hotel / guesthouse is going to think when the client rocks up with a 80kg fish though

Hey there Travelmember,

The fish normally stays with the boat, but we try to ensure that the clients take home at least 8-10kg of cleaned meat each on the day... We also sms our local clients, who have fished in the past to come down and grab some FREE fresh fish if we have left overs after each trip... We also donate some to charities such as Living Hope and Red Cross Childrens hospital, if we have surplus fish

Known as the Taniguchi method. By pushing a length of heavy mono or wire down the spinal column you pith the fish. This completely destroys the spinal cord in the neural canal thereby stopping the biochemical reaction that leads to flesh deterioration. When you sell the fish, you get a higher price. Only really of use when the fish is subject to a long transit in slurry. For less than 24 hours, bleeding and spiking are sufficient.
But always good to see the fish looked after.

Congrats on those fish - was a lovely day on the water Tuesday - DREAM day for me!!

Any decent YFT gives A LOT of meat, and thus it's good to see the fish being treated "with respect"!
Gerhard, the CORRECT way of treating YFT is to make a small cut behind the pecs to bleed, cut the tail (seldom done and not CRUCIAL), cut the top of the head to expose the spinal cord and "ream" the fish with a wire down the spine. Then, straight into ice/saltwater slurry! You could even take the gills and entrails out and stuff the cavity full of ice!
