Scottburgh in December
« on: December 07, 2014, 12:27:22 PM »
Hi guys,
I am new here, and I must say after an hour or two of browsing I find my eyes hurting...    :craz: I am an avid angler, it just that I don't do it nearly enough! Any type of angling really, the thing must just have scales and fins (ok no scales are good to, you get the idea) and it is good.   w;k
The family and I are headed to Scottburgh for a week or so of holiday and I would love to do some fishing while we are there (12-20 Dec). :fshn:

If any of the members are there as well I would like to meet up with them??

Secondly any advice, tips etc wrt spots in the area? I would like to do some dropshotting and bait fishing for shad, kob etc. :shd: :blktl: :grk:

Thanks in advance...
Sean

Chokka throw baits off the pool wall will get you some grey sharks.

Shad may be around. Good size Blacktail are generally pretty scarce thanks to anglers who haven't heard of catch and release. Same goes for kob :-(

Thanks Half-Pint

Time of day, tide position? or does it not matter?

Is dropshotting worthwhile? The plan is to buy a setup once there..

Early morning and evening is best. If the NE blows for 2-3days you will get fish all day.

Dropshot depends what you want out of it. Throw camo worm and you will get small blacktail and wave garrick but not much else.

Thanks guys.

Seems like you have to know what you are doing to be able to land something.. eish  duh

Am I right in saying that green point is about 5 km's north of Scottburgh on the R102 near Clansthal Beach?

Where can one look for to get oneself a dropshot outfit without getting the bank manager irritated? The plan is to work with camo worm and perhaps some paddle tails... Even small spoons too.

Thanks kevf...

I've seen a few old posts on "Cheapest fishing tackle store" in Chatsworth and "Southcoast tackle and outdoor" in Toti. I'll check 'em out too.

Don't know Scottburgh to well but have fished the area around Greenpoint and north to Umkumaas a couple of times and was lucky enough to get a nice 6kg blacktip kingfish there. You got to work for your fish in the south coast as the guys have taken there fair share but there is still fish. Normally caught most of our shad 30 mins before to 30 min after sunrise and the same in the afternoon with some nice stone bream and blacktail in between most of the rocky areas aswell. If you drive into Umkumaas there is a Bp on your right hand side, turn of there and follow that road and keep left untill you get to the small parking area. There is a big bay area in front that you can get to. Caught a couple of shad there and a mate of mine staying in the area has caught natal snoek of the rocks spinning. If you go south from there, there is also a couple of nice rock running south where we've caught some stoneys, blacktail and greys plus a guy caught a couple of nice size torpedo scads spinning from the beach there as well.

We parked next to the road to get to green point where most of the guys parked but the bakkie, mates OLD nissan 1 tonner that he does care about, was broken into twice in two trips so be carefull there.

Hope you get some fish.
Trouble is just fun you got caught having

Hi guys just quick report back. Things are rarther quiet at scottys. Few small shad early before sunrise plus a number of smallish sharks. At the point in front of the pool. All on bait. Ive been throwing spoons, paddle tails and buktail jigs without success (at the point and the beach area in front of cutty sark hotel.
Nice warm and cloudy conditions. Wind not too strong, all in all quite pleasant.. just need a nice one now..

Cheers...
