Knysna Help Needed!!
« on: November 06, 2014, 08:37:01 AM »
Hi guys
I'm heading up to buffelsbaai (Kysna)in December to do some surf fishing. I want to get my first decent shark and will also be fishing for some edibles. Can anyone help me out with where I can get lives to fish with and any other info about the area. The lagoon looks interesting but I haven't found any info on it. I have got some info on where to slide from but any other shark spots will be appreciated.
Thanks

I know Buffels very very well  , unfortunately the bulk of my time was spend on Surfing there . We did make a couple throws there ,our other observations I will also share .

1. If the seas are big , rather not fish or find a SAFE area to fish , We always swam through those gullies at the Caravan park and caught some good Cracker and Red Fish there , but we also saw Big Raggies patrolling those gullies . we also manage some Big leervis there about year 2000 , on plugs . From the Caravan park towards the Shop , its a VERY shallow reefy area , I would stay clear of . by the small slip you get your Elf on high tide .

The Wildside or outside of the bay , is what it name indicates wild , we have spotted many many sharks here rags and gullies , while surfing there , they are out of casting range thought lol ...the point in front of the old Bpackers are dangerous BE SAFE, DONT venture there when theres a swell running , this is a very serious warning !!! the amounts of water shifting and moving there when the swell is up are amazing to see , but not to fish in . The stretch of beach , from  there towards the River , produces good fish , and you will get you rags there , we also saw some sharks there , got bitten off ect . A buddy of mine soiled himself there one morning while surfing the river mouth ... biiiggg Johnny .

SA fish is member here and would have better info as to my ' blast from the past ' lol

Like Lenny said, the wild side can be productive for Cracker and Elf when the conditions are right. You can also scratch for your usual reef species like Blacktail etc. The beach area from the Western parking lot to the river mouth and beyond is also good for Shark fishing but the drop off is sometimes outside casting range. You can wade to the sand banks but be very careful of rip currents. Night fishing is not allowed because it forms part of the Goukamma Nature reserve. You are also not allowed to collect bait etc.
