    Took a few buddies and the gf out to my little bat spot for a releaxing night with a few beer and expecting some bats to come out and play  
     Got there to a peaking high tide, and I was looking forward to the low. Seems I only get fish during the low in the bay anyway.. and it about an hr till my buddy got a pair of plate size bats, on squid, and the 1st legit ray went to the gf with a respectable 46.5" batty, which kicked her butt  
 
      About 30 mins later my buddy hooks up again, turned out to be a nice 45", his pb 

      Me, not so lucky, I was stubborn and stuck with macks, which usually generates plenty of attention, just not today 
 
    We decided to call it quits at 11:30, no sooner at 11:28 , my friend is hooked up again, to a nice 1! Turned out to be a 52", his new, new pb  

     I may have skunked out, but regardless it was a nice night at the spot...

Actually its a daiwa sealine 30sha, with 65# power pro, and around a 30ft shock leader, and yes, thats a saltist handle, very good eye you got haha

Ah same setup as you quote last time.   Should've guessed. Some nice catches there dude.    Fishing for large in-eds like those with braid must be intense, had any issues casting with braid, assuming your 30ft leader will be out of the eyes and off the reel quickly?

  alrighty man, it varies alot based on whether I'm surf fishing or bay fishing,this time I was bay fishing, and soaking half macks, or double squid. Pinned to an 8/0 j hook, 50 # mono leader, connected via sebile knot, and just enough for aid in landing them on the sand, the rig is just a simple cannon ball rig, which is an egg sinker, a bead, and hook, bait is cast out, and left in freespool, with the clicker left on, and my bites always come in the bay during a receding tide, it can be quite a workout when the bite is on, they usually average around 20 mins or so, on the larger models

Very interesting that it's on the receding tide at night. It's the generally the opposite for us. Pushing tide, at night. Have you tried using circle hooks yet? Should work very well.

Only in the bay do I do well for rays during the receding tide, in the surf its all about the rising tide for sharks and rays and others. And I tend to use the owner mutu 10/0's a lot, just not so much lately, with the bats its weird that I never get them to swallow the hooks
