Hi Fisherman1

Where are you going, Witsand or Infanta?

Hi Fisherman1

Firstly  :welc:

Secondly, here is a link to some previous advice for Cob if you are using artificials. http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=10444.msg159019#msg159019

The principals for fishing for both species remains the same regardless of where you are (Lagoon-wise). For Grunter - ultra light setup, fresh prawn, drift over sand banks, no deeper than 1.5m. Obviously releasing the fish is quite a good idea to show your youngster what conservation is about.

For Cob - Paddletails, Leadheads, are all great. Focus on the drop-offs where Cob patrol. Bringing the lure off the sandbank and into the drop-off should work well. Don't be disappointed if you don't catch straight away. Talk to the locals and they will tell you where to fish. You MUST find out about the LAWS regarding fishing the Breede, the laws are pretty specific and differ from other lagoons and rivers.

Hi Fisherman1 and Son

Stywe Lyne

If you've read Miles' dummies guide to Breede, you should be okay!! The secret is to CHAT TO THE LOCALS once you get there! Not all are over eager to share, but there are certainly some willing to give a few "secrets" away.
Live mullet/strepie is a very handy thing to have!!

Hi Poenie,
Many thanks. With regards to getting the live bait, confirm its just a matter of chumming a bay with some sardine and throwing the net - Was thinking of area around Rooiwalle ?

Confirm... some crushed pillies in an oranges-bag works quite well.

:tkx: After reading all the information I am going to fish lighter than I usually do - go down to a 8lb line - (i have never fished this light) What would be the bestknot to use with 8lb mono ?

Perhaps a palomar ?

Watson, is that you??
I HATE tying leader to 8lb, yet I always do!! On such light tackle a double-uni knot or bimini to yucatan if what I prefer.
I fish 8lb but find that the braid does not last as long as slightly heavier (12lb or 15lb).
