wavecrest hotel
« on: August 31, 2014, 09:25:08 PM »
a week ago I broke my leg and had a pin put in so I've been on  my back since then and the next few weeks wont be much easier. my wife has been running after me and our one month old son so shes having a helluva time.

we both enjoy the Transkei and id like to surprise her with a long weekend at the end of the month somewhere - no cooking, cleaning etc. I really liked the look of Wavecrest on Inside Angling, has anyone else stayed there and how was their experience, bearing in mind our son will be there and me in a moonboot hoping to do some fishing. are you able to hire boats to fish the estuary?

cheers

I was last there a couple of years ago. There were 2 small dingies and a few canoes for hire / use - all paddle powered. We had better fishing off the spit and the beach though.
Took our own canoes and fished the estuary (both rivers) quite extensively but kept returning to the spit.

I think you will struggle with a boot on as the walk is at an incline and the rocks are not that easy.

Went there on a school tour years a go... Lots of small Kingies in the shallower part of the estuary to the right. Grunter, River Salmon, River Bream are quite thick and bait collecting is very easy (Mud Prawn).

To the right of the mouth you can get Blacktail, Kob, Cracker, Bronze Bream and many other fish. The fishing is top there, have been wanting to go back ever since the school tour as our "fishing time" was limited.

Kev, have you thought about Umngazi River Bungalows. A brilliant family holiday destination and she will be spoiled. You can pick up Grunter from the lawn and small motorized boats for hire, very moonboot compatible

How about Kob Inn, also motorized boats for hire on the river. Klapped some good garrick there a few years ago
