Very nice FH! Run us through the tackle you're using please. Your live Shad... how are you hooking it up? Are you using a Garrick Slide or a non-return? Nylon trace?

Here is a run down of what I use,I'm not a pro at posting things like this so please excuse any mistakes.

I use a 8oz grapnel sinker,the ones I made have 2mm wires so it sits properly.When you trying to get your shad out the last thing you want is your sinker not to hold,chances are good that you will kill your shad trying to get your sinker back to have another go at sliding it out.I only use an 8oz no matter the water conditions,I travel as light as I can,there is no place for a range of sinkers in my bag.If that 8oz does not hold then I doubt you will find Garrick feeding in that current then.

Once my sinker is out and sitting I will only then pin my Shad.I use a non return clip on my slide,weighted or non-weighted they both work for me.The trace in the pic is the one I used today and is 1m long from bottom hook up to the clip.I use 5/0 Kendall rounds tied 50mm apart,just enough slack to pin it.I use 40lb nylon to make up my trace,no steel wire or coated wire,it will tire your shad and besides Garrick don't bite through the nylon.

In the pic you can see how I pin my Shad,the bottom hook is the anchor and the other is the carrying hook.DO NOT put the anchor hook in with the point facing forward,the Garrick WILL
Spit the Shad out.I will not tell you how I know this,its too embarrasing,lol.

Once your Shad is pinned and is sliding towards the water,you can shake your rod to assist it into the water.When the clip is out of sight,you can stop shaking,the Shad will make its own way down to the sinker.Normally on the way down you will get a pick upm

I fish with 25lb Maxima main line and a 60lb leader.

There you got it now,Tight Lines!!

Thanks for sharing.Never seen it being done like this.So does the weight carrying hook get put thru under the other hook so it prevents it from tearing out?

Nice one FH , very interesting method of pinning the livey , with the 2nd hook standing up straight like that does it not put the Garrick off as it takes the shad... ?? thanks for the tut on the trace .

Thanks guys, the hook that is upright is no problem as it probably folds back as he swallows the shad.The anchor hook however is the one that if placed point facing forward will cause him to leave the bait.

I learnt this method from a master garrick angler and its yet to let me down.

The hooks 80% of the time both end up hooking into the Garrick,top hook in the scissor of the mouth and the bottom hook in the mouth or on the side of its head.

Nice fish, well done. I wonder if this hook set up will work off the boat, or if its more a sliding set up?
I see there are car tracks on the beach. How do you get that right?

Bins along the beach.

Thanks for Sharing FH..
Most of the anglers at Winkles use this method.(and was a well-kept secret J )
Garrick tend to hit the bait quiet hard to so the hook placed parallel helps, The carrier hook not tearing through the flesh.
The hooks in this position allows for a better hook up rate and allows the fish to swallow the bait without feeling the point of the hook and Releasing the bait.
