Hey all,

This Garrick season has been abit slow
but I finally managed to land one this
Morning.

After first going to Winkel I decided on
The way home to stop and check what
Was going on at Warner station. A friend
Of mine had just caught a Shad and
Offered it to me for live bait.

There was a serious side wash so I did
Not have high hopes of even getting a pull.
I managed to get my 8oz grapnel to hold
And then slid the Shad out. My rod was
bending under the pressure of the Shad
In that wash,it eventually settled down
And I was able to put it in the rod holder.

With my line out and sorted I started spinning
For Shad,after abt 20mins I noticed my
Garrick rod violently bouncing in the rod
Holder. As I approached the rod the ratchet
Started screaming as whatever had eaten the live
Bait swam off. Only after about 5mins did I see
The boiling on the surface then I knew it was a Garrick.

I took my time enjoying the fight it put up,the screaming
Current did not help much when trying to get it over the
Drop off. Finally it was in the shallows and after shouting
The last instructions to Shaun,not to grab my line,he tailed
It for me and it was landed safely.

Jeeehaaa,9,5kg's on the scale. Traces retied,leader and main
Line checked,ready for tomorrow.

Nice catch in tricky sea conditions. The sea has been in a bad mood often for long now here in Durban.
