Long weekend fishing-Kanon
« on: June 16, 2014, 06:02:34 PM »
As I mentioned in the"who's fishing where?long weekend?"thread,I was planning to go fish as it was spring tide(full moon)and there was some stormy weather on the way,so I hooked up with some friends and we decided to go to Kanon.I had some vrot and some fresh redbait which I cut on Friday morning and 2 Allikreukil.
Saturday morning we left at 7:30 and went to the spot.My friends looked for some bait and I set up my rods.I took my big rod and Fathom 30 to try for Cracker using Allikreukil as bait and a 6/0 circle and casted that. The water was still very low but I knew I could leave that bait for a long time as most of the shell was still attached to keep peckers at bay.I also tried my Stradic 5000 on a 12'6" rod that I bought from mr.Pike a while ago and a 1/0 circle. At about 10 the water started pushing and things started happening, first fish was a nice stone bream, then some sizer blacktail and some undersize Banded Galjoen...unfortunately no pics of the spot and the rest of the fish as I ended up watching t.v. all day as nothing would take my redbait while they were using musselworm... Eventually the water chased us off the first rock and we had to move a little(15m)to the right. There it was much the same with some nice sized Stone bream,Kolstert,Banded galjoen and then at around 13:20 a nice sized Gallie was missed, but the very next cast it was caught...the wind had picked up and we saw that rainy weather was on it's way,so we decided to pack up...all in all it was a successfull day out, just not for me... (bat :hehe: eventhough I later also used some worm... we released the undersized Kollies,Gallies,Banded Gallies and Stone bream that was also caught...this Gallie I estimate at 45-48cm if you look at the pavers on my driveway... :dunno:

The spot where we got these fish was shown in my "Kleinbrak to Gouritz" thread... http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=17533.msg296711#msg296711 If looking at the picture,it's far left,on the edge of the pic. off the rocks...
