Hi Guys
I will be working in Richards Bay 2 days a week for the next 3 months....
i would really like to get some light tackle lure fishing in while i am there.
Anybody got contacts there who would run a charter, or ideas about who i should contact?
Shot

there is a local tackle shop in meerensee ... Fishzone ...
Henry is an avid dropshotter and an extremely capable and successful one too ... has very long list of species in Richards Bay ...
He would be your best starting point for tips IMO .....

Can help you with spots, but not sure how well you know the area?
Canal concrete bridge - High tide in the afternoon 4 - 7pm, fish on the harbour side of the bridge, cast towards the bridge across the water at about a 45` angle, small kingfish, springer, tarpon (only managed it on fly).
Steel bridge - have had more success on the canal side, small kingfish and tarpon apparently but have had no luck with them there.
Naval island rock pier - pier on the left facing Pelican island, afternoon has worked for me from 3pm onwards, salad fish, scad, small kingies.
Cassarinas (can be dangerous but haven't heard of any incidents for a while) - off the front facing the harbour channel, sand flats so tide not that important, big gurnard.

Hi Gareth
the pelican island piers are good for the schools of kingies etc that move in and out of the bay, as well as some larger pick handle barracudas, and the sandy bay between pelican island and actual land again is good for flatheads. Otherwise T-Jetty is another spot I used to enjoy, but I wouldn't fish there alone at night.
The little blind canal you can see at the top of the picture was always my favourite spot for ultralight angling, but not because it was significantly better than anywhere else, but because I liked fishing for lots of little species, and there were often springer, pickhandles and the occasional, mythical oxe eye tarpon to be had.
The center, white X in the image is on pelican island, which is on your way to Alkanstrand swimming beach (the first right turn at the bottom of the winding hill if leaving "FishZone" for the swimming beach.
the other two yellow dots are on the T-Jetty, which is a well known spot which you can easily get to if you can find the swimming beach.
Let me know how you get on...
BM
PS Henry at FishZone is definitely a good start! He knows the area very well.

1st thing he said was "wanna come fishing this afternoon" so am gonna take him up on that next week.
That's customer service . LOL.
Will keep updating as we go.
Shot again to all!
