Struisbaai 12 Mile 17/3
« on: February 21, 2014, 11:43:21 AM »
So like most of you guys seen the Tail has been thick , at times , and then pulling a disappearing act every now and then .

I could give a long report but will post a link with some really good Video footage on [ look at the last couple of seconds the fish swirling under the hooked one ]

on Tuesday 5:30 we gathered in the Harbour ,  was a bit sceptical about the Weather and a big sea , with a full moon . Needless to say , Got of the Trailer , into the water onto the boat , hier gaan ons ! Plan was to get a couple of tail , for the Braai , and get a couple for Livebaits for Marlin , we saw the water was really green and bad , we steamed further up to a massive current line , and WALLA , in the blue water pappie . we put out couple of Raps , and a Feather , but quikly ditched the trolling , we spotted a bouy with some float debris , sneaked up  on it . popper , jigs NADA .

When we left the harbour , there was some big swell , the swell became bigger and bigger up , lekker knopperig , Even Niel the Skipper said its bigger that they thought it would be , we were only 4 boats out . one Commercial , atthe 12 mile and Rusvic , we never saw them , mght have been in the shallows .

Any way back to fishing , we went past 2 Tjokka boats out on the bank , to a Commercial , they were on the fish , shot for shot . They called us over and we got up close to them , first drop VASSSSSSS , this must have been the biggest fish , I had my hands full keeping him of the bottom , but lost the fish , next drop VAS , next drop VAS we had triple ups , galore , until Tally was full , now anybody thatr has experianced a Loop like this knows , its hard work . Chris saw a Bill fish at the back of the boat , the guys sprang into action I supplied the live Tail bail , out on a Ballon ,Ballon pops  , round two , the next moment the reel speeds off butit was a tax man .

We picked up , and trolled for a couple of hours,  Konas , one with a Bird , had teazers out , the works , agian Johan saw somethng on the  surface , and we mad a couple of turns , notting , we went South , along the contours , basicly as we turned to start a troll back home , BAM !!!!!!!!! out rigger on my side pops ZZzzzzzZzzZZZZZzzz Niel Grab the rod , and the fish Jumps Dorado , and a bg one at that . land the fish safely , and then all hell breaks loose on deck , Dorado go APE when the on deck .

Anyways guy not one for long stories , but have a look the detailed full report by the Skipper .   and GOPRO on  Geelstert.com .

Massive thanks to Neil / Chris and Johan , they might come across this thread , if they are not out fishing !

the best thing about a good days fishing , is when you come of the ocean , then theres no tension , just chilling  .  :nobs:

Good sized fish , I just have pics of these two babies , shame . It was a long day , and we just of loaded the first 10 of the 40 we had on The boat . The biggest fish of the day , had three lashes  on both sides of his body , Johan said thats its a Marlin bill , that  gave him a Skrik , They [Chris Niel and johan had a chat about size of livebait ,and ths was strange to them , and they said well look size does not matter ]
Look I am not bill fisherman , hats of to the guys that spend small fortunes , to do so , you are very blessed !

Pretty keen do another yellowtial/MArlin trip before season ends .

Well done Lenny.  :rck"
Still hoping to make it to struis for the long weekend. Accomodation is a challenge though. Apparently theres some fishing comp on and almost all nice places fully booked. Gonna keep on trying though.
