Mike, I clean forgot to take a photo of them. there are 6 x 2 sleepers. got a gas chest fridge/freezer, gas geyser and a 2 plate gas cooker. there is one solar powered light in the room. water was hot but very poor pressure, the beds and linen was awesome, looked brand new and very comfortable. the windows are a bit tired and rusty, couldn't open or close some of them. There are 2 maids that give the place a clean every day, for 320 bucks a night per rondavel I think its pretty good value AND the point is a only a stones throw from them. The freezer didn't keep the bait frozen though unfortunately.
Dugongboy, i've heard some good fish have come out off that point, going to try get back there for those winter crocs this year

Arrived at gwe gwe at about 2pm, north easter was blowing pretty hard so unpacked everything and sorted out my tackle. went and slid a chokka off the point but had no takers, scratched around a bit and didn't get a touch, packed it in at about 5 and lit the fire and just enjoyed being at this special place.
Woke up pretty early and went and did some spinning, spoke to a guy who had been there for the week and said all they got was one smallish kob, not a shad in sight. didn't catch anything but throwing a spoon with that amia/stradic combo is pretty fun anyway. cooked up a skottle breakfast and took my dropshot rod with a small float and #12 hook in front of the rondavel, caught a stack of small fish, blacktail, pinkys, stone bream , wave Garrick and flagtails where full up. Kept a bigger blacktail and took it and slid off the point, after about 2 hours I pulled it in and released him, not a touch, nothing in the gullies either. As I was packing up a club from Durban arrived (Trevally) for the postal compo. had a chat to them for a bit and let them get on with, they had a social session which never produced anything.
That arvie my wife and I went for a drive to the msikaba mouth, its actually amazing how beautiful this place is, really is a little gem. Went back to the rondavels and the South Wester came, spoilt what was looking like a lovely evening. Put out a livie in the bay area looking for a kob, also threw a paddle tail for over an hour but absolutely nothing.
Got up again to do some spinning but couldn't find a thing, 2 local guys came past that had been scratching their way down the coast and also hadn't had a thing. Saw the Trevally guys arrive to fish compo so after some breakfast I walked over and saw them pull out a +-15kg scalloped hammer, this got me a little excited and I went back to look for a livie in front of the rondavel.
Plucked out a beaut of a mullet and set off with it. Found a spot and sent it out, all very quiet for about an hour and I went to chat to the other guys, hadn't been there 2 minutes when one of the shouted , saw my rod with slack line, shot back to my rod a reeled up the slack and saw the hammer on the surface. After a brief fight I had it close but the point is pretty high and I didn't want to gaff it so was a battle to get it up on the next ledge, all the while the leader was rubbing against the rocks( thanks Lenny the wind-on worked an absolute charm), the water surged and I heaved it up only for the tip of my posiedon5 to snap, sounded like a rifle shot. One of the Trevally guys hopped down between the sets and pulled it up - 102cm female scalloped hammer. was really happy to get the pull amongst all the other rods, live bait is just unbeatable.
Fetched my medium tip and sent out another mullet, but that was it, no more fish for anyone off the point. One of the guys kindly gave me some really nice redeye that I was gona have a throw with in the evening. I threw out a mullet as it got dark and brought the rod up to the rondavel and put it into a pipe near the braai, went and threw some baits after supper but no luck, mullet had been eaten by crabs aswell.
Had a lie in on sunday, packed up most of the stuff and tried for another livie, 2 small stone bream where all that was there so I slid out my last chokka, sinker pulled after half an hour so I reeled it in and put it out again, midway through the cast the line snapped and I ended up with my record size birds nest, that ended my fishing very quickly.
Over the weekend I saw a lot of bird activity out deeper, all heading southwards. Lots of turtles as well.
On the way out we stopped in for a look at the newly renovated chalets( 2 x 6 sleepers by the main lodge) really nice and comfortable, with electricity. Also looked around the butchery/shop area its really overgrown but it looks like they've started clearing the place out , also what appears to be an old restaurant/bar there - very interesting.
As of the 1st of June Riverside and Gwe Gwe rondavels are closed, it seems that they are going to go ahead with the long talked about upgrades/renovations, what ever they do I hope they keep the spirit of the place alive.
On another note I'm looking for a new heavy rod to pair with my torium 30.

The place sounds just as pretty as when I was there about 12 years ago, took my dad there for a fishing trip, had the most amazing time, enjoyed the waterfall and the point extremely, sadly, I have to say we also had live baits and dead baits out and never got a pull. Think there is some serious scratching oppertunities there, actually remember two other blokes that only scratched and they did rather well. Would love to go back there some day.
Thanks for good report Kev
