We set off Thursday morning with Cashew Bay Lodge Inhassoro being our destination, after stopping at the garage before the border to sort out some forex we breezed through the border however the local law insisted we remove the boat cover to snoop around(and on our return).
After not being able to get hold of the honey pot we pushed a bit further and overnight and Sunset Beach Lodge in Chidenguele had a good supper and one or two cold brandies before heading off to bed
we set off the next morning at 5 am and arrived in inhassoro later the day meeting Derek and Wendy at their lodge they were quick to have their staff carry all tackle etc. off the boat while we enjoyed a few
We were there to fish the Johny Harel Memorial Billfish Competition which started the Sunday and with the weather not looking ideal for the week ahead we decided to fish on Saturday just to make sure everything is ok for the week ahead.
On Saturday we ran to 25 mile reef to do a bit of game fishing and caught a few tuna and couta,we then took a turn out to the deep and hooked into a decent dorrie which Arno landed (his first sea fish ever caught)
as for the comp we did not do all that well, not being able to land any bills but we did manage some proper strikes on konas and the other on a live yellow fin of +- 7kg which both did not stick and a few other screaming runs on konas that where dropped just as quick as they took off.
All in all it was a massive learning curve for us as this was our first real attempt at bill fishing but at least we caught some good by catch.
baz is an amazing place to fish and the sea life is astounding with bait balls busting all over the place/turtles/dolphins and whales all over the place we even had two sharks hooked up till next to the boat one took a rapala and the other a kona
the run from Inhassoro to around baz point is about a 25km run the bay can be as flat as a mirror or the total opposite, we experienced both
Fuel wise we used an average of 9 cans a day thanks to Wendy for making daily fuel runs for us while we at sea
A big thanks to Derek from Cashew Bay for looking after us so well we roped Derek into crewing for us as we would have only been a crew of 3 and not to forget Wendy who packed our boat packs and made sure we had snacks and cold beverages ready for us when we got back from a long days fishing, the daily fuel runs, fresh sashimi and sushi the list goes on and on
