FLY SWOP SUGGESTIONS
« on: September 28, 2013, 12:16:19 PM »
I want to suggest , we get s Flyswop going .
I see the fly section has grown alot ,maybe some guys can give input regarding how we gonna go about it .

This will not be a money driven at all , should you want a couple extra , You could contact the Tyer/.member via PM .

The participants , any UA member .
What will be expected from the Participant ? P&P the flies on his Cost. Remember you will also receive one  that you did not pay the P&P for .

How will we start : let see how many  guys are amped , keep in mind you flies do not have to be tied by yourself , it can be shop bought flies too .

Post a pic , and some details about your fly , hook size ect ? the minimum flies PER swop , we can still chat about .

Self catering , family accommodation available  in Struisbaai . Contact Leon 0780394225

A good idea Lenny. The way the fly swaps work on Flytalk is as follows.
The Swap Master ( Organiser ) announces the fly swap, detailing what fly is to be tied, e.g Saltwater, Terrestials, Dry Flies, Trout flies, Yellow flies etc. In the announcement a deadline for submission of flies is stated.
Members then agree to join the swap. The number of flies to be tied = the no of participants +1 ( For the organiser ). The flies are then posted to the organiser who once all flies are received posts a poll and pictures for the best fly.
The organiser then ensures that each participant receives one of every fly submitted.

The winner of the poll receives nothing except bragging rights.

Admin : how do you feel about such an event ?
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

wrt postage... it should not be too much of an issue... most of us up in GP can get together at some stage, and we will only have to post to out of towners...

Really like the idea

We can always ask Richard from Urban to host an event for us, he does fly tying evening every Tuesday, sure he would not mind and UA evening once a month? Richard?
There’s more to life than fishing – a significant small bit that I haven’t figured out yet….

Wynand, it's not supposed to be an event. Someone calls the fly swap, and then everyone who is interested joins in. Newby tiers are the MOST welcome, as they will receive flies tied by more experienced tiers.
It's a win, win for everybody involved.

Now all we need is a Swap Master who will nominate the flies to be tied.
