Trailer Sandblasting and Galvanizing

Hi Guys,
But mainly KZN-Durban guys.
I am busy Building a Breakneck Trailer  for SilverTip. However i am seriously thinking of Galvanizing the trailer  instead of painting after the remodelling has taken place.
First Question, which is better, Paint or Galvanize, I have  seen how the paint protects the rust from being seen until it’s too late.
Second Question, sandblasting, do you guys know of a  sandblaster that’s not going to blast the day lights out of my wallet.
Third Quentin, Galvanizer, is there any preferred  galvanizers you can recommend to me.

ST, you must galvanise its the only way, try Voight and Wilika (Spelling) in prospection not far from Toti, the last rate I got was R5.50 a kg. They do a lot of trailers.

Hey ST, you go to galvanize it bud, its the only way. Also don't use any tubing during the build as water gets in and the trailer rots from the inside. Every surface must be galvanized so use channel and angles. Just take a look at the new trailers on the beach and you'll see what I mean. If not give us a shout and we can run through it. I'll be fishing with Greg tomorrow

I am the warehouse manager for a surface preparation company. We mine and supply sandblast media for all applications.

Sandblasting is the route to follow to ensure you get max out of your final coat.

I can refer you to a few sandblasters.

Unless the trailer is really rusty you shouldn't have to sandblast it the galvanisers acid dip it as part of the process before galvinising it so light surface rust isn't and issue

I would strongly recommend sandblasting before galvanize. Done mine recently and I am very happy.

ST I used a wire brush attachement with my big grinder and it only takes the paint of and does not damage the metal as this is an alternative to sandblasting. Takes a bit of elbow greese but it's worth the effort and please wear protective clothing when doing this as the little bristels tend to come loose.

thanks Isi, have already taken the tip of one of my fingers and almost tjoped off another. this pen pusher may look a little soft, but I can strip an opel motor on Friday and have it ready for fishing on Sunday morning with ease. thanks will give it abash

Hi std. What was your final call on the trailer. I purchased a painted trailer and also looking for best options. It is not a boat trailer but multi purpose for all the work around the house. Thanks
