Modderfontein Report
« on: May 26, 2013, 08:11:45 PM »
Good evening everyone,  :carp:

Just wanted to share a quick report from Saturday morning, we fished Modderfontein Dam number 2 for the first and were pleasantly suprised. I tried my hand at targeting micros but I dont think they feed much in winter because I had nothing while I was fishing for the smaller species. However, we had some good success with other fish.

It was myself, Brandon, Gavin and Sean and the fish were very active from when we arrived at about 7.30am until we packed it up at 1pm. Between us we got 3 fish and lost 1. 2 species of Carp/Koi hybrids (From the Asagi Koi species) and Sean caught a beautiful Common Carp.

Sad thing is there was a guy fishing there with his family who was and still is telling everyone that they are emptying this dam so we must not put the fish back, instead give them to him! if anyone goes theres please dont listen to him, Brandon works in the area and is on very good terms with the management at the nature reserve and this is absolutely BS. That was the sad part of an awesome morning session.

Will post some pics tomorrow  :uarocks

Looking forward to the report WK!

I Remember as a child we used to fish the rivers and dams with absolute pleasure during the winter months as there were no "peckers" or "kleintjies" around. Needless to say we were not at all into micros and regarded them as a nuisance. Time have changed though!

Thanks Kallie, the security leave you alone if you fish on the dam wall, except at night then they chase you away, or if you fish the bank in front of the shops, but yeah they dont mind when you fish the dam wall.

Hi Guys,

How was the weekend fishing? I got a small barbel at modderfontein, so they might be coming out now?

So I want to try Hennops Pride, fish in the Hennops river...anyone fished there and know what the fishing is like there?
