From what age do you need a license? We are planning a trip and I need to know if I should take out a license for my son (9)?
The plan is to do some rock & surf as well as East-coast Lobster

Think the rule is that if they're old enough to hold a rod, they're old enough to be licensed.

Don't know for sure though. I always bought licenses for my lighties to be on the safe side.

think is more a case of: Rather have and dont need it... than need it and dont have it... or something like that

you need a fissing lisence from 12 years and up.

the law is -- if you are fishing you need a license no matter how old you are!

Grandson is 10, fishes with me often on the Crocker. Ist time round i was told he needs a license, so I had to buy him a one. Gets checked often by the Parkies when we beach. Use the details on their birth certificte. If they are fishing, they have to have the necessary license so I'm told. Why hassel, for something less than R100.

I just phoned a kzn wildlife inspector he said any child under 12 years donet need a fissing lisence.

I'd ask him where that is stipulated... For me, apart from the legal aspect, I believe it's the right thing to do. Considering the amount of money we outlay for tackle alone, the cost of a licence is negligible.

I just wish they would move away from this paper licence nonsense and implement a card system of some sort...

Cost is R76 for the year. Parkies are going to question the age of the youngster and rightfully demand proof. All this nonsence for the fee of R76 a year or R6,33 a month.
Buy the licence, why hassel???????????

We are so far behind... Should have seen the instructors reactions when I did my defensive drivers training in Aus and presented them with a paper temporary licence.

Sorry for the hijack... But card licenses are the way to go, and they can be renewed or additional permits added rather than needing a new one to be made.

I couldn't agree more with a credit card type licence, even with a photo would make life much simpler.

My kzn license with receipt is in a bank bag and scrunched up in my wallet.

I actually thought that children under 12 years old did not need a licence, the kzn wildlife site (stl) is silent about it.

I have no problem paying for my grand kids to have a licence, but where do you start and stop?

Imagine:

With regards to the Credit Card Licenses i can tell you from our charter boat meeting with KZN wild life that they are looking into the credit cards! however as with everything it is going to take time! they have to have all the systems in place to issue the cards and renew them.. they are getting there but like i said it is going to take time!!

a slightly different topic, but again a complete bungle.

One of my major clients will not grant us access to site because we do not have a valid letter of good standing issued annually for the workmens compensation fund.
We have diligently deducted the monies every month from all employees and paid it over to the fund.

The fund has changed its computer system and there is a problem

Now that is a multi million rand organisation who can't get it right...what price we get fishing licences sorted into a useable format
