Howsit Devesh,

Dropshot or medium spinning ?
Dropshot involves small soft plastics... Usually 3-5 inch on a max 2 ounce jig head.

You do get bigger soft plastics, but not really suitable to cast from the shore....

What's the budget ?
What do you want to throw ? And what weights ?

From the surf, I'd suggest a minimum 9 ft if you want to throw spoons and lures, but again, depends on cast weight...

Budget dependent, have a look at the Daiwa Excellor Saltwater series rods, and maybe the Daiwa Ballistix or the Shimano Stradic

As Homie said it all depends on what your budget is, and what you would be using it for, whats the max you are willing to spend?

Bought a Loomis and franklin dropshot rod last year or the year before for R450, 2 piece 9 ft heavy with stainless guides and can cast up to 2,5 ounces. was a steal at that price and one of my favorite light tackle rods! Haven't seen one in stores again but I'm sure if you look around you'll find them.
Trouble is just fun you got caught having

Wise words from Homie !

You could get a 'entry level outfit ' for About R1000.00.  8FT Shimano Vergeange and  Soltace Reel /Shimano plus Braid .

If your not next to the water every second Weekend , then the above mentioned are a very good Buy IMO .
