Here is a strong safety lanyard that may have lot's of applications. This can be made to suit any length and strength. I can think of kill switches, rod safety lines, paddle leash for kayaks, etc. Fittings will also be adaptable to your specific application.

Here's how to do it:

* Get a piece of monofilament (200-600 Lb)

* Find a dowel of variable girth (in the pics below I use an old broom stick (must be about 3/4 inch) and drill a few 2 mm holes all along.

* Insert the monofilament into one of the holes in the dowel and wrap the mono around the dowel as shown below. Insert the end of the mono through the last hole and pull tight.

* Boil some water and chuck the dowels and the boiling water into a container (in the pic below I'm using a 2" galvanized pipe with an end cap).

* Let the dowel there for about 3-5 minutes.

* In the mean time get some water into another container with ice.

* After the 3-5 minute period, remove the dowel from the hot water and put it immediately in the cold water for about 1 minute.

* Uncoil, cut to desired length and apply using crimps.

The one's available in the shops are very thick & bulky and expensive.

Good idea Marcos , like PH mentioned the leashes in the shops are very bulky and way overpriced ..
