My dad and brothers decided to head to our place in the kei for the weekend. I declined due to the house being painted and you never know who comes to visit when anyone fromt he building industry has been at your place.
Well it was the wrong call by me. no visitrs ( which was a good thing) but the fishing was wild. The sea was 27 deg. They had plenty bonnies early sat am and on a 5 up stike and a small 50kg sized marlin interested in the 5kg bonnies. they were a bit big i think so didnt eat any. They live baited a bonnie a bit later and had a solid strike and had a marlin on for about 5min before the hook pulled. Had 1 hoo chop off a lure as well, before all went dead min morning so had a few reds on the bottom.
Sunday they tried again. the fish had moved in from the 100m mark to the 30-50 area. all day was yft to 15kgs, dorado, bonnies etc. The highlight was my dad getting his first sail (after loosing a few in kenya 3yrs ago), and its our 2nd this year int he kei. All in all they had 39 strikes in 15yrs at sea, l;anded 29 fish had 3 bills up, hooked 2 landed 1. Not a bad weekend.
I fished off EL yesterday but the weather man got the forecast wrong, and we got the brown stuff kicked out of us all morning. dropepd 1 small bonnie and had one dorado miss a lure and that was that.
Talk about making the wrong call.
Tha game fishing off the transkei (when the water is right) is unbelieveable and if there were more baots fishing the area properly I recon a lot more bills would be cauight. Mates who have a 30ft sportfisher in durban recon they saw more marlin and sails 1 4 days last jan in the kei than they have seen in a yeasr or 2 in durbs.
