Fujairah United Arab Emirates on fire!
« on: September 09, 2012, 08:36:02 AM »

This last week Jon Viney and Myself fished in Fujairah with Alex Louw on his boat Lara. Really awesome trip and great fun. We met up at the marina early morning after driving through from GT House and launched the boat.

The aim was to do a little bit of everything from jigging to trolling to light tackle. We headed out to jig some of the wrecks. After a lot of hard work Jon managed to hook up to a good fish on the MC Works 556. After an initially easy fight a nice yellowfin tuna which I believe is the first one of the season came to the boat and then all hell broke loose and Jon had his work cut out for him! But the angler and rod did a fine job and Jon landed a nice 12kg YFT. I managed to have a couple of hits which looked like Aj but never managed to to hook up.

After the sun and heat got up we headed for the tankers to try a bit of trolling and light tackle spinning for Dorado. Alex has an amazing mister system on the boat which spreys a fine spray of fresh water while you fishing, simply fantastic! We actually fished for about 12 hours on the boat because of the system in UAE summer heat!

We got to the first tanker and found no dorado but Jon dropped a jig and managed to raise a couple of fish and then the game was on. We had a fantastic time catching some good sized dorado and rainbow runners on Riptide Plastics and small Hots jigs. I think we must have got about 10 dorado and 8 rainboaw runner. Really great day out and nice to be a guest on someone elses boat just relax and do a bit of fishing!

Nice stuff. Dorries and Rainbows are such sluts for flotsam (in this case, a huge piece of flotsam). They can provide endless hours of fun.
Forgive me Father for I have spinned... It's been three weeks since my last cob session.

We just came back from the UAE and were lucky enough to have a day on the water @ Fujairha. I can report that the fishing at Fujairha is dismal. We were four people on the boat and could only manage one fish for the day. For the price - 2500 dirham (R6000) or R1500pp I can definitely not recommend Fujairha. Imagine paying all that money and not touching a rod.

We met some South Africans working in the UAE at the marina who told us that a year ago fishing at Fujairha was great but the last year or so was dismal. They say that the best fishing is in Oman but with a single entry visa into the UAE you can’t make the return journey back into the UAE.

Our skipper could only speak about 5 English words. I realized it was going to be a slow day when the skipper tried to make us take a picture with the bait fish he caught at the marina.

Anyway, that’s fishing for you. If it was easy there wouldn’t be any fun in it…

Sorry to hear about the bad fishing, but it goes like that sometimes. We did a charter In Ponta where all we got was 1 Couta that cost 5 of us R3500.

Which charter did you use?

I have last fished Fujairha in 2009...

My 1st experiance was also the same.

Charter - No fish for the day.

Next time a friend and I went out with is rubber duck.

We basically never came home with out fish.

Dorado, Queen Fish, Cuta (King fish) and small tuna.

Sorry to hear you guys had a difficult day on the water.

Hi Snoek

Sorry to hear you got skunked on your day out. Fujairha can offer some amazing fishing action but like any fishing destination there are going to be days when the fish have lock jaw. If there are any specifics that you were not happy with please feel free to drop myself or Nick a PM so we can address any shortcomings we may not be aware of.

With regards to fishing in Oman on a tourist visa it is possible to cross the Dibba border into Oman where our operation is based without having your UAE visa cancelled.

Cheers Cameron
