I downloaded an amazing APP for my I-phone the other day...

Cost me a bit of money but so far when I compare my marks to the marks on the charts
everything is spot on....

Check out - I sailor....worth every penny

I think I found your little spot...

I can only find the Transas iSailor App on the App Store, is that the same one? Who is the publisher? Sounds like a great app to have for realtime plotting and mapping.

The app is I sailor,Im sure I used the U.S. app store...cant really remember

You gotta pay for it I think it was around $ 30
Its the Africa,east coast - Cape Town to Djibouti

It's amazing,I have garmin blue chart mapping on my GPS and Lowrance Mapping on my Sounder/GPS
it makes them look stupid...actually embarrassing.

Have found/marked some insane spots

With a I phone or I pad you can zoom right in or out instantly.....from 100ft to 10NM in a blink of an eye

I have downloaded the Transas iSailor app (free download) but see that I need to download the East Coast profile like you say it is $24,99. If I get it, how good is the detail and can you plot or import waypoints of your own? Before I buy the profile I'd like your opinion on how good it is?

It's definately worth it...
It makes garmin and lowrance mapping looking like it's from the 1800's
I have both and i paid alot of money for them...which kinda leaves a bitter taste in my mouth but
what is done is done

For $ 24.99 it's the best bargain of your fishing career

Every single high point/pinnacle that I know or have is in very good detail.

You can plan routes and measure distances.

Shows wrecks and other hazards....just like a proper professional chart

You have my full attention, can this app only be downloaded on smart phones only or also on tablets or pc's as well. I am not big on the tech side

It has a option of importing /exporting files...so I assume you can.I havent really fiddled too much will all the tech stuff,just been eyeing out all the reefs/pinnacles off mozasm.....So much reef...too little time.

Unfortunately Im also not technically gifted,Im not sure what the other brands of smart phones offer...Im sure you can download it onto a Ipad.

Prego It goes onto both, I downloaded it to my iPad and it appears ready to download on iPhone via icloud (free version)
Has anyone compared it to the Navionics app?? This is quite a bit cheaper.

I've been using Navionics for quite sometime.... I've just downloaded the iSailor app, and bought the East Coast maps. Will play around with it a bit at work today and give you feedback.

I'm by no means an expert, so bare with me....

Hahaha....impatient fool I am!! I answered my own question last night and wasted R200!!
The detail and info is very very good but as a fishing tool its useless........you cannot enter wpts and cannot save position, its basically a sailing/navigation app.
I think that paying more for the Navionics app will be worth every cent.

I was fooling around last night and downloaded the free Plan2Nav (Jepperson) this looks like a better proposition with the ability to add wpts, the full version is $37. I still think the way to go will be the Navionics route??

Dugongboy... i was on the Transas site last night, apparently they will be updating the i-Sailor to allow for enetering waypoints. If they can do that, i would recommend i-Sailor over Navionics any day!!

I also read that, but when will it happen, the app is pretty useless to me as is but have to agree it could be awesome....great for sailing between various ports etc.. lots of detail and nav data!
Did you check out the Plan2Nav? If the detail is as good as iSailor then it should be a good option, what don't you like about the Navionics??

The Navionics is decent, very good in fact. Having seen i Sailor now there is a difference in the level of detail, but probably my biggest draw back is the actual screen size of Navionics... it doesnt utilize the full size of the screen...

Navionics does have a cool feature whereby you take take photos on your iPad/iPhone and they're stored on the maps as a GPS location...

Will check out Plan2Nav tonight and let you know....

Just downloaded Plan2Nav.... Been playing around with it or a few minutes and it looks pretty good!! Will comment further in the morning....
