Excersises to prevent sea sickness?
« on: August 20, 2012, 04:16:00 PM »
Touch wood, but I have not have a problem as yet - except when the a certain skipper decided to do bottom fishing once.
I don't have plans to go offshore in the near future, but it is a fact that the body (ears) get used to the marine motions when it is done frequently.
Surely there must be excersises one can do to prevent this condition - in lieu of taking tablets, ginger ,etc, when an offshore trip is planned.  :dunno:

Some people get used to the motion and stop getting motion sickness, however most don't. I spent a couple of years running all the gyms on cruise ships for a UK based company and spent lots of time on ships. The majority of all people who got motion sickness on board, kept on getting it for the duration of their contracts. whether you are on a big ship or a small boat, it still feels crap.
Thank goodness i've never had it. People who are active eg. sports people tend to not get motion sickness. The body is probably more used to moving around in different directions.

That's just my 2c.

Good luck Pierre, The only time I havent been sea sick was twice when we were trolling, the other 5 times was bottom fishing, and that will be WK's offshore legacy, I am retired from offshore fishing  :hehe:

My 2 fishing partners get (got) seriously sea sick before we've even got bait but love fishing that much that they puke their way through it....

Watched Mythbusters a few months back and they found that Ginger tablets were the most effective.... Neither of my mates have been sea sick since!!!!

Let the person take deep breaths and let them concentrate on the shore if close anough. I used to feed the guys Airwaves gum. The blue one. If that does not help and start burping... better you tell them to hang over te side and start.

Buy yourself a rocking chair and watch TV every night. :hehe: plus a couple dops and then off to bed, what better excercise is that. :happ:
A bad days fishing is better than sitting at home moping.
