alternate shad bite trace
« on: July 11, 2012, 12:21:38 PM »
this is a trace my dad showed me a few years back,it saves time and you don't have to do haywire twists.
what you need to construct this trace:
1-wire leaders size 6"or 9"
2-mustad big red hooks 4/0 or 5/0 or any hook with the bent eyes in these sizes
3-cork or bung
4-bead

cut the clip off the wire leader and add the hooks as in picture,1st the sliding hook and then the lead hook.

Looks good Mukiwa... how do you tie the last hook on, what knot?

Explain how you attach a balloon please? Where and how.

thanks for fixing my mess, the lead hook is pushed through the eye of the hook and the loop of the steel leader is pulled over the hooks point and then pulled up to the eye.a balloon can then be attached to your hook snoot  +/- 70-100cm up from the bite trace with a small cable tie on to a swivel attached to your main line.the advantages of this trace imo is the sliding hook which caters for different size bates.

Why is it that some guys I notice have their sinker lines shorter than the hook line for shad trace, but according to the picture books the sinker line is longer
