My advice,

Take out the old line, and fill new ! You just gonna have a weak spot on your line, and this can snag during casting etc. Not worth the headache !

If you have to join, use a back to back fig 8, providing the diameters are not too far apart

Another knot you can use that's also very strong is the Spyker knot or you can also do a fig 8 to Uni knot but I second Homie that re-spooling will always be the best option.

Homes.... there probably about 100m of line as the backing... and its on small shimano 15/30....

So if i can get 200m on top- doubt i will ever see the line underneath  -unless i hook into unstoppable bus..... plus i can use 600m spool 3 times...

Will try the catpaws and put it on my back- to see if it breaks- if it does will try the back to back 8..

Havent thought about that Jakes.... i can even make bimini ...and normally fig 8 - just like how join leader...
Thanks for tip :resp:

Back to back fig 8 should be fine.

As you say, you probably never going to get to the join, But, if you do, thats when the trouble starts !

Having a lower breaking strain line as backing is not good ! no matter the knot you use, the weakest point is going to be the backing line, and when that goes, so does all your topshot !

If you have to join nylon, the best knot to use is, as Homie says, the double fig 8.... small, very strong. No need for Bimini's. It will always be a weak spot in your setup, but if you have to, thats the way to go.
