I have recently received a copy of a letter from our club chairman, who obtained it from Transnet National Port Authorites (stamped and signed) that states that at present no new permits are available, however a 60 day grace period is in effect from date of the letter until the new permit discs are available. If there are any members that would like a copy of the letter, PM me your e-mail address and I shall gladly forward to you a copy.
I understand that the letter exonerates you from procecution until you receive your new disc.

Thanks, Parasite. Johnny (chairman) also told me that the receipt of annual fees from the club is also good.

The Port Captain has not worked out the new costs, a birdie tells me that there may be some changes to the use of the harbour and entry/exit thereof??
Lets see, maybe things could get better??

Where exctly in the port does this permit allow you to fish.

No tying to buoys.No anchoring in any channel. (Any device which is attached to the boat and touches the ground is regarded as an anchor)No craft may enter a restricted area. These are:-
a. From the east corner of pier 101 (encompassing the navy base and Island view Channel) within an imaginary line to the end of the piled sheeting on the south side of the coaling appliance.
b. The Harbour entrance. The small craft basin to the eastern ferry jetty on the Bluff)
c. The Tug basin at the base of T-jetty in front of the maritime museum.
d. The heritage site.
e. From “D shed” to “L shed” 200 Metres from existing wharf.

Thank you Ziggy, I was at the transnet office enquiring About the permit. I was told by the gentleman who issues these permits that you are currently allowed to fish south pier as well. However entrance is gained by train or via military base in bluff. Any idea on how to access south pier via the base ?

I don't know.....I fish off a boat. I think you can take a train? Maybe someone else can respond

You cannot access via the military base, you may get through their checkpoint but access through the City Engineers waste/sewage plant is restricted.
Some years back they had restricted permits but I think they are gone now??

Also im not sure if the lines have been cleared yet. They had landslides recently with the big storm that hit Durban, that covered the train tracks.

You may have to drive down chanel view road and park at the dead end, then walk approximately 3-4km to south pier.

As a lighty i use to do the walk every weekend, now i'm just to bloody lazy

Have they discontinued the ferry that used to take public across the harbour mouth to south pier side? (old whaling station area)

There was an article circulated recently indicating that you can now fish off north pier, however you will need a transnet permit to do so

Will have to dodge for flying sinkers now when beaching and launching, comin over....

I was surprised that no one had mentioned north pier fishing yet.
Permit applications are being done on Saturday and Sunday.

I believe there are restrictions as well. Only certain areas on north pier and specified hours.
