venue advice
« on: February 28, 2012, 04:54:35 PM »
                      Good afternoon guys,

Please can you offer some  advice on a venue that my family and I can visit for a night or 2 within 2 1/2 - 3 hours of joburg?

It has been years since i visited a trout/yellows venue , apart from a guided day's fishing on the vaal
The trip is for all of us to relax and spend time together and give me   the opportunity to wet a line and perhaps even get my wife and mom to   try a cast.

ideally we are looking for a self catering venue with reasonable accommodation and not too far from 'town' so that we can have a walk around
dstv is a must to keep my father in law entertained  duh

  thanks
  e

Have a look at http://www.dullstroom.co.za/ They have listings for about 70 different venues catering for everybody's needs. Easy 2 and a half hours drive as well. And if you still not sure, just phone them, they're really helpful and know all the venues, they'll sort you out! w;k

If you looking at Yellows only , the Elgro river lodge(  http://elgroriverlodge.co.za/ )is superb. +/- 130 km from JHB between Parys and Potch.   Lovely accommodation and the fishing is brilliant . You can do the drift 12km of some of the best Yellow waters in the country and you can pre book run.  :yipee:

For SM yellows there is also GVP,  www.yellowfishparadise.co.za.  11/2 hours from Jhb.

Beware though it's difficult wading. :shk
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

If you are prepared to travel a bit further there is the Nkolo Spa hotel in Christiana.

Brilliant fishing waters for f/f and bait fishing, some easy wading, as well as the luxuries of a well appointed hotel and spa at very reasonable rates. w;k

In my book well worth the visit. Something for everyone.
