The African Way: Fishing raft

Typical of Macaneta beach (30 km north of Maputo), these are made from palm tree leave poles... it's all wet but they never sink... the fishermen go through the surf and paddle or sail for up to 5 nm out... catching couta and other large fish on handlines...

Ask Mike to adjust hist "Trolling dynamics for small boats" to this class of boat. :-)

Those guys are the real "men of the sea." They must have an intimate understanding of weather conditions etc. No Wind Guru or Buoy Weather for them. No GPS or fish finder. No two way radio. You have to tip your hat to guys like that who risk their lives to make a hard living. I have ultimate respect for them!

I'm with you Tommo... nothing puts me down like people bargaining with fishermen for the price of their hard caught fish! "Just pay the damn money... it's fresh!". I never argue with them to lower the price when I'm buying bait!
